I’ve seen some ships sitting on small wooden wedges like it was in a dry dock scenario. Any source for these little guys or do I need to just make them?
The guys that do ‘floaters’ [:P] will pitch in with sizes, etc, but thin square bass wood strips from the LHS, to simulate baulks of timber.
From what I’ve seen, it’s more stylish than realistic, so look for dry-dock pics or model ship pics depending on your tastes
As an aside, there were specific styles of baulks, stocks & propping up PT boats when transported on tankers to the PTO and ETO.
Midwest Wood Products sells fine strip stock & dowels in oak, mahogany, and walnut; in addition to bass wood and balsa. Midwest products are generally available in hobby shops which cater toward build your own RC aircraft. You may also find some in the dollhouse section of craft stores.
I find it easier to pick up a piece of thin (1/4-inch) oak while I’m getting the oak board for my base and rip some quarter-inch square stock. Then cut to length in the miter box
