Motorized Panther

I just bought a very old model made by Tamiya, and It is the Panther D i believe, ill go check on that, but it only set me back $10. I am dissapointed that the hull is single mold with the torsion bars, but there are several good qualities of the model. I was woundering if it is possible to motorize this model because of the many holes in the bottom hole where the axels go, and the fact that one profile drawing showed some gears sticking upwhen the upper hull was removed. I would like to know which products I should buy from tamiya to motorize my Panther.

Cool.
I am assuming that your talking about 1/35 scale right?
Check out eBay for some of the older Tamiya motors for the 1/35 scale kits.
I am not too sure if they still make them. I am sure however that someone here will prove me wrong.
I was taking a looky poo recently at the older tamiya motorized models as well.
Some look great such as the Soviet KV-1 motorized. But being a longtime fan of stoic models, I would probably reconsider.

why thank you, so ebay you say? and yes it is the 1/35 scale i am talking about.

Yup.
This got me thinking, there should be a motor included with the kit, most of the 1/35 Tamiya motorized kits come with motors I belive. (I might be wrong however).

no no no you got me wrong, this is not a motorized kit however it looks like it could be equiped with one, judgeing by all the funky looking holes in the hull. anyone ele know anything about the motors to buy for it

I don’t know if this is of any help? I have an old tamiya panther kit 1/35, it is molded for motorization. on the underside of the top hull half, directly under the molded engine access panel, are molded “MM PANTHER—35065—0975112”. on the underside of the hull it says, “TAMIYA MOKEI PLASTIC MODEL CO.—1969”. I know for a fact that you can get TAMIYA motors, gears and stuff for a whole bunch of different things at “HOBBYTOWN USA”. They are a franchise by private owners, so there might be one in your area. If not, the number for the one here is,610-696-9049. Hope it does some good.

Alot of the old Tamiya kits were sold either as display or mortorized, so the hull molds were the same. I built a motorized M1A1 complete with wired remote, back in the day. The problem was, 1 the wired remote detracted from the realism, 2, the hull had to be opened and closed for the batteries, 3, with the non-working torsion bars, the tracks seemed to like to come off. My model “threw track” alot.
It was really cool though, and Ive been looking pretty hard at their new RC tank kits for the novelty of it. Good lick finding the motors.
