Recently recieved Studio 27 PE sheets for RCV and M1, fantastic can not wait to get started[:D]. I am puzzled by the disc covers. I have two pics of a Repsol RCV which has the carbon disc covers but it is a bit vague so I can not really make out what is going on.[;)]
Can anyone throw any lights on:
what are the discs for?
When are they used i.e. before or during the race?
Are they used at all races?
Has anyone got some close up picks of these disc covers?
Any information will be most welcome
Thanks[;)]
Andrew
Am I totally off if I say they are used in rainy races to protect the carbon discs?
That would be an explanation to why they don’t show in all your pics.
I’ll see what I can dig out when it comes to ref pics.

Thanks Joel for quick reply. On the Studio 27 sheet for the M1 the covers are referred to “winter tests”. Does this mean protection from snow and rain?. I live in Africa where we have dry winters so the conditions are not familiar to me? [8D] Would the bikes race with these covers on?[:O]
Andrew
Joel has hit the nail on the head with his post. The covers are used only when it is very cool conditions. This means that they can be used at any point, whether it be practice, race or winter testing.
They are used to keep the temperature in the discs. Carbon discs need to be very hot to work properly, so when it is cool on track the covers help keep the heat in the discs so as they stop the bike fully. Not sure if they are used in the wet, as the teams use steel discs for wet conditions, as there is no way to get enough heat into the carbon discs when it is raining.
Hope this helps mate. Are you joining in on the motogp group build?
Mitch
Not to be used for Vale’s emotional Pakisa win then!
Thanks for the info Mitch and yes I would like to joing the group build with a M1. I do relief work so I travel a lot into Africa, next month I will be in Mozambique, Sudan and Angola, so building will be slow, hope that it is okay for group build
Back to the covers, if I put them on a WEST 2002 RCV it would not look “out of place” then?
Andrew
The covers will be Ok if you want to put them on that bike.
Feel free to join the group build. I don’t think there is a thread on the group builds forum yet, but keep your eyes peeled. It shouldn’t be a problem if you take a while to complete. Don’t think there will be a time limit on the build. Just a group of bods enjoying building bikes, and exchanging ideas and tips. [:)]
Have a look at the Motogp group build thread here in the autos group if you haven’t allready.
Mitch
Thanks Mitch for straighting things out, I was a bit out of line.
I have to build me one of those winter test bikes, looks very cool with the covers on! [:D]

yea it should be to keep the temperature. Cuz if you go to the official GP site, in their gallery for action series in the Shanghai track one this year, it was raining during the race, and Max’s RCV didn’t have any covers for the discs.
Usually when it’s rain, there are changing it to metal disc.
