…or unfinished kit?
This is the kit you want to build or even finish, yet you feel intimidated by it for some reason or another. There it sits, as though laughing at you and saying “You’ll never finish me!” [}:)]
Mine is the Eldar Vampire Raider (GW Warhammer 40K). It’s a fairly large heavy all resin kit kit. No instructions or anything. Looks like some major structure work – especially to keep it from falling apart.
Believe it or not. It’s the Academy 1/35 AH-60 DAP.
With all of the great detail, I’m afraid I will not be able to do it the justice it deserves.

Italeries 1/35 tiger I Ausf. E. The link and length tracks are scaring me away. Also a 1/48 B-26, thats scaring me, well, because its not a tank![:P]
Now this one’s easy: Tamiya’s 1/16 Tiger I (static kit) with the full Aber PE set.
It’s the Aber set that makes it intimidating! I understand the Tamiya kit itself is a dream to build, but since I plan on putting every ounce of my modeling skills and as much of the Aber set as possible into the project, as well as whatever other detailing is necessary to make it the best model I possibly can, it remains the most feared box in the closet!
One day, it shall be done, though.
This is a no brainer for me…Tamiya’s Dragon Wagon. In addition to the kit itself, I have three sets of PE: Vehicle exterior, Vehicle interior, and the Trailer. It’s going to be a monster whenever I decide to tackle it.
There are a couple close seconds though:
Tamiya’s Tiger I Late with the Eduard PE exterior set and three Verlinden sets: Interior, Engine Compartment, and Exterior details.
Tamiya’s Famo with Trailer including the Eduard PE set for the Famo and both of Aber’s PE sets for the Trailer.

Actually I have two, the Tamiya Swardfish and the Revell Snowberry.
The Swardfish has been sitting for about two years. I want to do a great job on it as its my favoret biplane but my skills just arn’t up to the task to do it justies.
The Snowbery is it’s size. I have had it for over three years now. Not only do I need the pace to build it but a place to berth it afterwards. I build a wall bookcace in our guest room some years back with it in mind but by the time it was finished all the books and my wifes teddy bears have taken up all the shelves. I’m planning on building more shelves and cupboards in what we call the Office. That might aleviate the space problem but I some how dought it.
Actually the bane of my modeling world is a Heller 1/150 windjammer, Le Glorieux. I have the hull and decks complete for over four years now but the masts and rigging - they just taunt me, get it? Taunt? Maybe some day I will work on it again but for now I would rather abuse myself with a Sanger Vac kit.
The most intimidating kit’s I have are the new Tamiya 1/24 scale Williams fw24(i think), and an old SW star destroyer with all the fibre optics WHERE DO YOU BEGIN !!! and then with the soldering on a plastic model AAAAHHHH!!!.

i would say that the king tiger from dml/dragon is very intimidating to me. all those independent track links. but intimidating doesnt mean i wont do it.

Too many to choose from, the unfinished Dragon Wagon, the unstarted Pave Hawk or maybe my new Phrog? I’ll get them all done, it just all those sprues when you first open the box!
Got an old Revell Cutty Sark - 1/96 I think. Had it for 20 years and it still intimidates me.
Great thread David. In my collection, I’d say the Dragon Stug III, just because there are so many indy tracks and I have to zim her up. I’m not saying I can’t do it, just that it is the hardest build in my collection.
Mine has to be the DML Leopold. I know when I get going it will be great, but just getting started seems to be a problem. Modelers block, maybe?
The Polar Lights Enterprise NX-01 looks pretty intimidating and I’ll be buying it soon. The build doesn’t look too bad, but the amount of masking that needs to be done in order to get the right look is going to be crazy. On the other hand, the 1701-A coming soon should be a lot easier since it’s pretty much one tone.
That’s an easy one. A Hasegawa 1/72 F-111F Aardvark that I’ve been sitting on for about ten years. I think I’m most intimidated by the camouflage scheme, even though I’ve done others similar. But it’s my favorite jet bomber and it makes me uneasy just to take the sprues out of the box.

That’s easy, High Planes BAE Hawk 127 RAAF Lead In Fighter. This is a limited run kit that I bought as soon as it came out.
I’ll get to it one day.

The Armo 1/35th resin PT-76. There is only one page of instructions (the exploded view type) and a lot of little parts, both resin and p/e. If only Armo had added a few pages of instructions, I would have built the kit by now. Did I mention the instructions are illustrated by hand and not done very well? [:O]
