More Jug Office Pics...

Some folks here may not believe that I actually do work on models.

Well, here’s proof…

I present the cockpit of a Hasegawa 48th P-47D razorback. It’s SOB with no extras except tape belts and straps. The buckles look a bit funky, but this is an outta da box build done in accordance with IPMS rules and I could only do the tape thing. I’ll probably go back and try to make 'em look reasonable with some paintwork though…

Well, I did thin the seat edges out… but that’s the only real mod.

Apologies for the grungy images… my camera is a little P&S POS and there’s no way I’d have been able to get this close with it, so these were done on the scanner!

Fade to Black…

Hey - alright.
The sidewall pic is a little dark, but the IP looks great!
You coulda knocked me over with a feather…Blackwolf posting pics of a model he’s makin…I’ve been here years and this is a first for me.
Can’t wait to see it finished. Keep posting pics, mate.

WOW, that’s GREAT, LOVE the IP

Bud

Hey guy,

Lookin’ very good! Nice work so far. Nice IP. I’ve also built this but why would you call it a "Son of a b***h? I thought it was a very nice kit…[(-D][(-D][(-D]

Thanks for sharing,

Zip

Nice work Steve, The IP looks great & the belts look real good from here.

Regards, Rick

Looking mighty fine, Steve. You should step away from the computer more often! I can’t wait to see the completed Jug.

Looks great, and the ip WOW looks awsome man.

Thanks all… I appreciate it greatly…

Yeah, 'tis quite dark but the original image was umpteen times darker. And I could only lighten it up so much in photoshop before the color noise got too annoying. It looks kinda lousy in the images but this is probably one of the nicest pits I’ve done, even if it is SOB. I was gonna rip the whole assembly apart and scan the sidewalls separately but it wasn’t worth it. Besides, the glue job was too solid… LOL

Hehe… well, I have posted stuff in the past… mostly old builds but there have been a few inprogs here and there. However, it’s been too long since I posted anything at all…

Which leads me to…

Yeah, I should, shouldn’t I? In the old days it was sticking one’s nose in books that kept them from building, these days it’s the net… and books too… and 1/1 stuff… and… LOL

‘SOB’, in this case, stands for ‘straight outta da box’… [;)]

Thanks again all… glad you like! Hopefully I can keep on keepin’ on with this one…

Fade to Black…

Photoshop?

Can you please elaborate on this method?
I was about to ask how you got those gauges
to look so crisp, but I’m guessing this is how.

Steve, have the planets aligned? You’re building!

And it’s good!

That IP is waaaaaaay cool! Keep us posted and don’t stop building.

(I’m still waiting for your entry in the P-40 groupbuild) [;)]

Thanks Justen! Yeah, I know… there must have been some sorta funkification going on in the solar system over the last week or so for something like this to happen.

And I too am waiting for my entry in the P-40 GB… [:I]

Guess again… this is what the original scans looked like…

As you can see, they are much darker and there’s a helluvalot more dust in two of them. Photoshop was used to lighten them up so that folks can actually see something and also to get rid of the dust.

I certainly hope you’re not insinuating that I’ve used photoshop to enhance my work, because if that is the case then I take great exception to your remarks.

I need no such ‘help’, as I’ve been doing this modeling thing for more than 25 of my 34 years and I know my way around the workbench… even if I haven’t been sitting there a whole lot in recent years.

I am generally a humble man when it comes to my stuff, however I take great pride in the work I do. Especially when it comes to my instrument panels… and I invite anyone to come and see this particular example, and any other that I have done, with their own two eyes…

As to getting that crisp look… it’s mostly drybrushing… plain and simple drybrushing with a pick or two of carefully placed color. If I get some highlights on the IP itself I have a system of dark washes to fix such mistakes, although I didn’t have to resort to that on this one. The glass was done using that old standby… a drop of clear does the trick every time…

Fade to Black…

Sheesh Wolf, I didn’t mean to offend you. I just misunderstood.

I thought that you did something like printing out a scale image of
the control panel & guages and glued it in place. I don’t see why
that would make you less of a modeller, because the whole point
is to make a model that looks realistic. The method of doing so
is just details. But obviously you think that is cheating somehow.
Sorry, dude. I’ll remember not to ask you questions in the future.

You should take my guess at your method as a strong compliment.
To me, the control panel looks that good.

Ah, I wasn’t sure if you were dissing or what… so it’s a misunderstanding on both our parts…

No damage done… and thanks much for the compliment!

Fade to Black…

How the heck did you interpret my question as disrespectful?
I just asked you to describe your method.

I think he thought you meant that he photoshopped the pics and that the IP was not as “crisp” in real life.

BTW, Steve: What a/c are you building?

I think it’s gonna be ‘Da Bee’…
