Monsterarmor's spare tracks picture

Question for Monsterarmor. I was looking in the forum for help on winter camo. You answered a question on 10-12-03 by dirk75 and you posted some pictures. I have a question about the spare tracks on the turret in the second picture. How did you paint these tracks to simulate the rust look? I think they look very realistic. I have never been able to simulate rust. MartyM2828.

hey Marty, I think your refering to the Tiger with winter camo? I usually paint the tracks by first spraying them flat black. Then I dry brush them with raw umber, for that really dark rust thats underneath the bright rust. Then I follow up with some rust pastel chalk. Just gring some off on a piece of sand paper and cover the whole thing really well. Use as much as youd like. Then I give it a coat of dullcoat to seal it. When you apply the dullcoat, some of the chalk tends to disappear, thats why I say to apply the chalk heavily. thanks for the compliment too  hope that works for you

Thanks for the tip monsterarmor. I will give it a try. I just finished a STUG III that I put on my 18ton FAMO / transporter. I’m just now starting a Brummbar. Have you ever done one of these? I need to do some research on colors, etc.MartyM2828.

Ive done the Stug III, but it was in the early base grey paint scheme. I havent done a Brumbar yet, or a Famo. Certainly are 2 on my “to do” list. Hope that technique works for you. Any questions feel free to ask. , tim
