I’ve heard that this kit’s a new tooling and is coming out soon, and i saw it listed as ‘pre-order’ on a few websites. When is it coming out??? can’t wait for it!![^]
hmmm, I thought it was out already. I could swear that I have seen it at the LHS- but I am probably wrong. I’ll check…
i saw it as “Future” on Great Models:
http://www.greatmodels.com/cgi/display.cgi?item_num=rmx5519
RM says it is currently available- Squadron doesn’t have it listed and Great Models is taking pre-orders. If those two don’t have it yet I’d say it ain’t out yet.
The inevitable question! Are they going to come out with a two seat “F” version? Boeing is also working on what they call the E/A-18G sometimes referred to as the Growler. It is intended to replace the Grumman EA-6B Prowler. They are using a basic “F” model, replacing the gun with black boxes, using Prowler pods under stations 3, 5 & 7 with some new home grown pods on wingtip stations 1 & 9, fuel tanks under 4 & 6 with HARMs under 2 & 8. Should be quite an effective aircraft.
The model is listed in the 2005 Squadron Master Catalog. I have not tried to order it yet. Unfortunately I am a bit tired of the F-18. Too many of them. And the real potent aircraft are being retired. Like the F-14 and E/A-6B. Sorry, I just like the classics!!!
im SICK of the f-18. there never has been and never will be as good a fighter as the F-14. anyone who says otherwise is an idiot and has not truly considered the facts or done research.
i’ve never been so mad at the navy. i changed my mind on joining the navy upon the fact that by the time i get out of the academy i would never have a chance to fly the f-18.
whoa…[#offtopic
I didn’t say the f-18 is better or otherwise, all i wanted to know is when the new kit was coming out. i understand your viewpoint though: I used to be CRAZY about the tomcat, but it is getting on in years…
And I don’t really like the new Mini I think it is a rip off on the old one plus the last Lord of the rings movi kinda s**ked too.[:D]
As a pure fighter, I’ll take the F-15 over the F-14 any day. The most impressive feature of the 14 was that marvelous search radar. The swing wings create such a weight penalty (not to mention the extra structural weight for those controlled crashes you aviators call landings) though that as a pure fighter, the F-15 will run rings around it.
“Not a pound for air to ground” was the mantra for the 15…and it shows.

[:D] Uh oh… I smell another fighter debate a brewin.’ Everyone duck-n-cover 'cause here comes the s#!tstorm…
See now, we are talking AIRCRAFT, not missiles. Now the Phoenix missile is an amazing piece of technology and from a long range perspective, make the Tomcat the better system. HOWEVER, get inside of 40 miles or so and I will take the Eagle any day of the week. Not taking away from the Tomcat, but it is way underpowered for the size of fighter that it is. Give me altitude and power please, and for that, I’ll keep my Eagle. (If you haven’t read it, I highly recommend Coram’s book titled Boyd. Great discussion of energy management and fighters as a whole.)

This is what I heard about that kit from the RM guys at the 2003 IPMS Nats. that were here in Oklahoma City- The same team that did the 1/48 F-15E Strike Eagle was doing the molds for the Super Hornet. RM was going to collaborate with Hasegawa to do the twin seat F, and the model was due in the fall of this year. I looked at the Squadron master catalog briefly, but I will definetly check it again to see if it’s in there.
I have heard from an ex-AF pilot that while the Eagle may posess a better power to weight ratio the F-14 is still more manueverable.
Obviously the above was said with tongue in cheek, right? Otherwise, they are pretty strong statements. Each a/c has it’s role…that’s why we have produced each one.
