Can anyone tell me why ‘Monogram’ is not familiar in Hong Kong since 1994?
Maybe they have an ‘understanding’ with one of the Japanese model firms not to sell there?. Maybe China won’t import that sort of thing from the USA?
It’s big business, they make up their own rules!
I know that over in japan that hasagawa make 1/35 scale armor.
We do not see that stuff in the U.S.
I think that albertsponson is right.
Model companys have made certian trade agreements amongst themselves to stay out of markets controled by other companys.
However the internet trade has put a small dent in this practice.
I sure would like to see some of that hasagawa armor here in the U.S. though.
Hasegawa reboxes Monogram for the Asian market. Also the company changed it’s name to Revell/Monogram in the early ninties. It’s either Revell or Revell/Monogram here in the states.

Actually Revell and Monogram were 2 seperate companys till they merged (I don’t remember the year) and took the joint name.
Revell and Monogram merged in the mid-late 80’s. (I also can’t recall the exact date) Kits continued to be produced under both names separately, but there was some mold swapping and it became evident to the keen observer that design teams also started to share ideas.
Finally, the first kits labeled as Revell/Monogram appeared around the time of the indroduction of the ProModeler line by Monogram. There were now kits being marketed under four labels, Revell, Monogram, ProModeler by Monogram and Revell/Monogram. Soon thereafter, the ProModeler kits were labeled as ProModeler by Revell/Monogram.
Nowadays, I don’t pay too much attention to this stuff anymore, but it seems as though the “regular” domestically produced aircraft kits (including some of the original ProModeler molds) are produced under the Revell label, regardless of their origin as Revell or Monogram kits.
The imported stuff (Hasegawa and Dragon molds) are marketed under the Monogram/ProModeler label. As far as other genres, cars and such, I dunno! [:p]

Hasegawa doesn’t produce or sell any of its own 1/35 scale armor here in Japan.
It’s all Dragon.
