I’m just getting back into the hobby, I was a big fan of Monogram kits back 10 years ago or so. I’ve seen a lot of these Monogram Pro-Modeler kits which I’ve heard good things about. Are these re-packaged / re-marketed Hasegawa and other Asian kits?
Pro Modeler is a bit of a mixed bag, but it’s all good. Their latest releases like the Stuka and P-38 are, indeed repackaged Hasegawa kits. But their first few were originals - the Me-410, Ta-154, Do-217 (and maybe the Ju-52 and Me-110) are all top-notch modern kits, almost certainly from Korean molds. I suspect they are unreleased Dragon kits, since I recall seeing all those in a 1994 DML catalog, but none of them were released by DML (or anybody else). The Me-410, in particular, may be the single best-engineered and most detailed WWII model airplane I’ve ever built. heck, the damn thing has rib tape molded onto the ailerons!
I don’t know the particular descent of the rest of the line, but the F-86D is certainly a new kit, and a good on too.
The P-51C that came out a few years ago is the old Monogram “raised panel lines” kit from old. They flattened the tires and had some small PE parts
with it. Ditto with the B-24D, and B-25J. But the coolest one of all has to be the Helldiver, It’s completely new and just a gorgeous kit to put together.

i know this isnt the same,but i recntly made a 1/48 f4 wild weasel by italari,but it was a testors kit as it had testors brand stampings inside,it seems a lot of makers are "inter breeding"lol.by the way,it needed major work to the nose & lots of filler!

Spike-Italeri and Testors have a co-branding agreement, which lets Testor’s put Italeri kits in their box to sell in the USA, and Italeri can rebox Testor’s kits in the world market. By the way, many Testor’s 1/48 kits were originally by Hawk. Revell sometimes reboxes Hasegawa kits and Matchbox kits, and Heller reboxes Airfix kits. Hobbycraft has a couple of 1/72 kits that say made in Poland, and I think they are by Intech.
Has anyone seen the Tamiya P47? What a kit! I think they just keep getting better and better. Really, it only needs some minor PE details to be perfect!
I’d say best to ask about the specific kits. Some are (were) old Monogram re-pops, possibly with photoetch added (P-39, P-40E.) Some are Hasegawa (BF-109G) or Dragon (JU-88C, JU-88A, TA-152.) Some are originals (F-15E, F-86D, ME-410.) Sometimes there’s just a variant or paint difference between the PM and R-M kit.
You want to talk about reboxing kits, try the Monogram/Revell-Germany/Italieri FW-190/TA-152H series. Each manufactuer actually offers some serious variations on the same parts. These are simply the best on the market of these aircraft, if you’re looking for accuracy of line. Someone did there homework.
I just got back into building scale plastic kits after 10 years away from it. I picked up a Pro-modeler Fw-190D and was simply amazed with the quality. For nostalgic reasons, I also bought a Monogram p-51B, which I used to think was great, but the difference in quality is astronomical. I love these Pro modeler kits.
Those are the old $90.00 Trimaster kits from the late 1980’s.

Monogram keeps getting better - I just finished their F-86D, and it’s a real jewel. The best thing, though, is that it costs only a fraction of the price that Tamiya and Hasegawa charge for equivalent topics. I have found that the Pro Modeler kits (cars and planes) have more complete instructions (with advanced modeling tips)with photographs of the prototypes. I think they are well worth the money.
