Monogram Mafia III

Don’t forget - TBD is also a TBD Devastator (Torpedo Bomber - Douglas). [proplr] Maybe that’s what you should have for your second entry…

Negative ghost rider…I’m 99% positive my second build is going to be the 1/48 F-15E

I know I know, both my builds are ones already in the GB…but I already have the MiG-21 and the Eagle was just calling my name. I just don’t know whether to build it OOB or try to convert it to an F-15I…opinions?

My Italian is a little rusty (ok, it’s a LOT rusty), but I hope you let me join anyways… I would love to be a part of the “famiglia” in honor of THE “Don” - Mr. Hans Von Hammer. (By the way, I’m asking to join with a Monogram F-100 Super Sabre, and a Monogram OA-4M Skyhawk, both in 1/48th scale.)

OK guys, sorry that I was away on business all day and have not had a chance to check in until now…

Cody, you are added to the roster

Rex, with my latest decision to add more detail to my Marauder build, I KNOW that I have lost my marbles. I MUST be a modeler…

MV, those folks must have been the same one to do the design for the Boeing X-32 JSF entry that lost to the F-35… talk about UGLY… that sucker is FUGLY!

Pyr, nice choice! I like seeing the dragsters and funny cars here for this GB. Not the same thing!

DD, did somebody say Monogram TBD-1? I do so love that kit!

and oh yes, you are added to the roster with your build choices. Both of which I happen to really like!

Stik,

My second build will be a what-if. The kit will be the venerable, yet somewhat elusive 1/72 F-16XL. The markings will be a 90’s era Dutch Tiger Meet scheme. May even be brave enough to convert it into a two holer, making it a F-16XLB.

Yeah, that’'s what I was thinking!!!..got a killer deal on a box of 1/72 nd scale Revell F-4B/Js. Ten kits for about $10 with FREE shipping! Had to jump on that one! Also, been collecting Vietnam era markings for USN and USMC Phantoms, so one of my builds will be of this venerable kit from the Blue Angels/Thunderbirds “Diamond Formation” kits. Absolutely loved those as a kid!

Now, what to do with the crewmen in the U-2 type helmets??!!!

Still trying to figure out the second build…Let you know soon. Looks like this is stacking up to an epic Group Build!!

TAD

Dang, 10 for 10? thats pretty great.

Stik, for my second kit I’m going to do a crossover with the 1/48 century series gb…1/48 Revell F-106

Count me in, with the SB2C (original, not the ProModeler kit) and the Typhoon (with aftermarket deckles for the Tiffy–it’s a bagged kit, no instructions or decals).

And I just got beat out on an eBay auction for Typhoon decals, too! @#$%!

$10 ?? faints dead away.

I had to pay retail for my two boxes of Blue Angels and one of Thunderbirds, back in the seventies or early eighties (yes, so long ago that I have forgotten, lol)

I remember that the F-4B in my “Joking post” cost me exactly what the price code is on the box spines. I bought 4 of those back then (sometime later than the 4-paks, again, I lost track)

Those pilots are molded that way because the kit was first tooled when the test pilots and early Navy pilots still dressed in those suits and helmets.

If you can cast parts, a good source of pilots is the Monogram/Hasegawa/Accurate Miniatures kits of F-4C/D and F-4J. You get one pilot walking and one sitting in each kit, hence the casting idea. Monogram’s cockpit is also an easy upgrade if you can cast. (or, if you bump the Monogram down to your Revell, because you bumped your Fujimi down to your Monogram, and bumped your Hasegawa down when you replaced it with a resin cockpit designed for the Revell of Germany kit, hey!! what is going on here, I have five different Phantoms and I can’t find the cockpits for any of them!!!)

If you build for long lasting shelf time for your finished models, you are going to want to brace your fuselage the way I will show whenever this build gets rolling. I haven’t listed it with Stik, yet, but, I am actually going to do two of the Revell kits and one Monogram,I want one Revell to be totally OOB, and one with all the left over “trickle down” parts from my spares box.

are we there yet??

Rex

I want lketo enter my revell Corsair F-4U-4

When is the deadline?

Matt…as I understand it, the earliest you can start is 4 July, but you can wait to start after that date. Whenever you start your build you have 6 months to finish

Matt, that is the answer. No kicking off before July 4th, but no cut off date at this time for any starts afterwards.

Thanks for the info on the pilot figures. I had always wondered about that and now I know! Funny you should be talking casting…got a bunch of other kits to bump up or down as needed with many 'donor pilot figures if need be. I’ll be looking for your bracing instructions later on. The Phantom is my all time favorite fighter bomber, and you can never have too many of them!!

Thanks for the info Rex; see ya in the posts!

Sorry, Stik, I don’t see myself listed in the roster. I hope I’ve followed the directions so far.

In the meantime, I’ve some decals for the Typhoon…

Gonna make this happen this go round! Since I failed with MM II I need to do two so put me down for the P-47 Bubbletop and the P-47 Razorback both in 1/48

Sorry guys, I have not had much free time this week yet to sit at the desk top and modify the roster. I promise that I will take care of it on my days off. Too much of a PITA to do it from my phone while at work… Don’t want to muck it up. Have a little patience Baron

Aww…Probly gonna hate myself. I will pop in I guess with the Big, Bad, and Beautiful release Monogram B-52D 1/72 scale. Thing has a 36" wing span, that should count as two eh? If not, second kit TBD.

Oh hell yes!!! Somebody has a big brass pair! I love that kit!

Looks like my second kit will be the monogram 1/48 F-15C. So a pair of Eagles for me.

The rescribing is going to be a pain on the monogram kit since its all raised detail. Can’t be as bad the 1/72 B-1B rescribe job I did though.
