Monogram F-84F Thunderstreak

My latest build, and my first completed aircraft that was started this year.

This is a 2000 re issue of Monogram’s 1984 vintage F-84F Thunderstreak. I built it OOB, including using the kit decals, which gave me the only real problems with the kit. I used AK Real Color for the overall Aluminum and was very happy with that stuff. It handled masking great as well as clean up of enamel overspray using thinner with zero problems. Other NMF tones were done with Model Master Metalizer and Tamiya lacquers.

This boxing also includes a Mk.7 Nuclear bomb and a cart…

Thanks for looking. Comments and critiques are welcome as always

stik, that is sharp! I really like the color. I wish I had known about AK’s silver for my F-100. Great work!

Well done Stik! One of my favorites. I was always curios about the horizontal stabilizer configuration. Kinda narrow and long but I guess it worked.

O and John, thank you.

O, if you’re doing a lacquered Super Saber, I’d say use Tamiya lacquer gloss aluminum. That looms just like the stuff used by the USAF. I used it on the mose area of the large drop tank here. For a NMF aircraft, the AK Aluminum is great. I coated it here with Humbrol Satin Coat to tone down the high gloss of the original AK color.

John the stabilizers are an interesting design. I believe that they are wider in chord at the ends than at the root. They are an “all flying” design, without any hinge for elevators off the horizonat stabilizers.

That’s a nice looking Thunderstreak! I’ll try to pick up some of the AK aluminum.

Very nice build Stik![t$t] [t$t] [t$t]

Love that paint job. Never done one. Scared to death to try it.

Stay safe.

Great work Stik. That’ll look good on anyone’s shelf. Looks like she’s ready to go flying. The red on NFM looks real sharp. I do have one question, what is that black patch on the fuselage spine? Unsually that indicates some sort of radar/sensor, but that sure would be and odd place for such a thing?

Many thanks guys!

Gary, I highly reccomend the AK Real Color Aluminum after this experoirnce. A great starting point for a NMF and very tolerant of masking, cleans up easy from overspray once dried and cured, and looks the part once toned down a bit.

Jim, give a NMF finish a shot sometime. We all learn as we do, learn from the last one, and build upon those lessons.

Chris, I was curious myself as to what lurks underneath that black patch. Yes, its usually some sort or of transmitting or receiving avionics. Way too early for SATCOM or GPS. This was a schematic cutaway that I found.

One of my favorite Korean-era warbirds. Very nice work on her, Stik!

Thank you Aggie. The Thunderstreak sure had a classic sleek 50’s style that the Thunderjet did not. The swing up canopy was just the final touch to that. I can see why it’s a favorite of yours.

Fantastic job!
However, the Mark 7 is upside down. The retractable fin points down. It’s retractable so that it won’t drag the ground. We got one in the shop one day where the pilot had landed with the fin extended. The edge of the very shortened fin was as smooth as a professionally milled surface. 55th TFS, 20th TFW 1957

Thank you for your comments. I had a nice longer reply typed up, but this site’s horrible pop ups and glitches lost it.

Bee-yutiful!

Thank you DM.
