Has anyone built the Monogram F-4J Black Bunny or (I think) the USS Constellation Squadron fighter? I cannot remember if I asked this question or not but I was wondering on the painting of this aircraft. The fuselage is built except for the engine’s air intakes. This is a two piece system. It has the intake shroud over the (forgive the non-technical names) side fins. I am not sure if you would paint this in sub sections or assembly the intakes to the fuselage then paint. If I paint it as one big assembly, The surface area inside the intake shrouds will not look paint sincer the paint will not be getting in there except for by brush. My brush skills are really bad. Any ideaa on the right way to paint this nice looking aircraft?
Leave the intake trunks off and then paint the boundry layer spliter plate and vari ramps. After they are dry, install the intake trunks and fill in any gaps then paint with the rest of the aircraft. Is the intakes black like the rest of the aircraft? I just wonder as all F-4 aircraft I have seen, the inside of the intakes were gloss white.
Berny has it right. It’ll be a LOT easier to paint and you get a better finish. The inside of the intakes should be gloss white.
Hey Snoopy, what scale is the kit you’re working on? I finished the Monogram 1/72 scale F-4J not too long ago. There’s a specific issue with the intakes on that kit, but if you’re working on another scale, then you may not need to worry about it.

The one I am working on is the 1/48th scale Black Bunny. The Black Bunny according to some research, was a pre-production aircraft to show off the newly designed/made F-4J. Information came from one of those books/advertisements from I believe Zeneth Military Book Club. They were selling the book on the F-4J. The painting instruction have everything pretty much black except for the area around the engines which are a light gun metal/silverish color.
