monogram f-14a converted to an f-14b

hey how would one go about changing an f-14a to a f-14b…thanks for the help

I believe the maojor external difference is in the exhaust nozzles.

This should be pretty easy to change.I can’t say that these are the only changes, hopefully a tomcat buff can point you in the right direction.

FSM had an article a while back. Click here For it. It has all the things you need to do on it. I have that issue too, so if you need, PM me and I’ll see what I can do.

hey thanks drew all i got when i saw the magazine was a purchase which i might do or if its possible would you be able to photocopy the article for me?

Minihasek, If you have a newer edition of monogram’s tomacat, it comes with both style of nozzles. I am building one as an A and have the extra nozzles siting in the spare box if you would like them. I also have an extra TVS chin pod too. Let me know if you can use them.

Another difference between the A and B varient was the chin pod. The Monogram 1/48 F-14A comes with a bigger chin pod that has a camera and IR seeker radom that is used on B version. Check out this site I’ve link here. This site is probably the best reference sources on the F-14 Tomcat and was a great help in aiding me with a Monogram 1/48 F-14A I built as a B version.

There was no difference in chin (TCS) pods from the A to the B. The different chin pods where on the D, they had the TCS and IR sensors while the A and B’s had just a TCS. As ever one has said the major external difference is the engine exhuasts but you need to be careful about all the antenna blisters by the intakes, early A’s did not have these. Plus, for a B the wing glove area’s were faired over, the A’s just had them bolted close in the later part of their career but you could still see them. The best reference I know of for the differences between the F-14A/B and D is the new DACCO book on the F-14, it has lots of detailed color photos of all three variants.

Mini, Have some pics of my 1/32 scale F-14A from Tamiya that I recently finished after all these years. First 1/ 32 Tomcat put out. Done it up in VF-31 Tomcatters markings from Cam Decals. If you care to take a look send me your e-mail address to dsc070744@wowway.com. I think you just might want to build one. Dennis, Fraser, Mi
