Monogram 32 Ford Roadster complete

I like to build cars on occasion, so I bought myself an old Monogram 32 Ford because I thought it looked cool.

Now I apologize to you knowledgeable car guys for my ignorance while building this, but I thought I would submit this little build anyway.

I’m not going with yellow though. Probably more like a Champagne Gold Metallic or Silver Blue Metallic. I’m not sure if the decals will go with either of those colors, we’ll see.

I started with the engine first. The instructions said it is a blueprinted small block Chevy…OK, I guess, I don’t know the difference. So it’s Chevy engine red then.

hey its going to look great in metalic blue but thats me.I been busy with other stuff I need to get back in to cars.

Cool! I like to do cars along with everything else lol. Should have a nice view of that motor when its complete. The red will pop.

Thanks Nick and John, glad to have you along. I hope I can do it some justice. I need to pick up some wire for plug wires. I have shrink tube for radiator hoses and 0.015" dia solder that works well for fuel lines and such.

I also received a 37 Ford and thought it was cool as well with it’s little blue trailer. I got the car bug the last week and just searched 1/24 Hot Rods on eBay. They seemed like decent prices so I pulled the triger.

I’m going to paint the body MM Silver Blue Metallic. I’m pretty sure it will be more difficult to cover than yellow so I laid down a gray base first. I also picked up some 28 ga wire for the plug wires.

Nick, it’s a light almost clear metallic blue.

That is a pretty color, gotta love those 32s!

I applied the first of many coats of the Silver Blue Metallic. I really don’t care for the plug wires so I’m going to look for something else. The wire I got will work great for something else though.

Steve, I completely understand the need to toss in a car once in a while, I needed to do the same thing. Your kit is looking good. As far as ignition wire go you can get hobby wire from Radio shack or somewhere that sells small gauge wire for electronics in various colors and I’ve found that those work very nicely.

Thanks BK, I have the perfect stuff in Boise but I need to look around here. I ordered some wire off eBay but I think it may be too small as well. I’ll keep looking but in the mean time Istillhave a lot to complete.

I applied the second coat. Maybe one more wet sand and a final color coat then the gloss coat.

I need to get some purple for the interior.

Thanks Jim, I got the idea of the purple from this picture.

I guess it’s more of a burgandy but you get the idea.

I applied the third coat and I think it’s looking good. I’ll apply a gloss coat tomorrow maybe Saturday. I also bought some burgandy for the interior.

Well everything was going so well. I started applying the gloss coat and added the decals. Good news, they look great on this color, bad news, they are wrinkling. Oh well, I was afraid of that. I’ll have to remove them and go from there. something was bound to go wrong LOL, it was going too well.

When I was at Scalefest I bought an AMT 1955 Chevy Nomad. Looking though it I found that it had a drag option. I’m stealing the engine to put in the 32. It has headers.

OOF, that sucks. Did you try to see if MicroSol would lay them down? I don’t think it will, but you never know. And a velocity stack intake on a V8 in a Highboy, OH YEAH!!

Yes, a couple coats. No good. That’s alright, I was able to wet sand one off without too much trouble. After the other one, I’ll need to hit the base color just a tad and I’ll be back where I was. There are other smaller decals on the sheet that I may try but not sure I trust them now. This gives me some time to assemble the new engine. The old engine will go into the Nomad.
I also picked up a $62 Bel Air for $5 that I wanted to rust up in a junk yard, waiting for someone to grab it to restore. That’ll be a while yet. I may leave the engine out of it so I’ll have an extra Chevy engine.

I’m back on the 32 after completing the push on the Scharnhorst.
I removed the decals, too bad to, they looked nice, wrinkles notwithstanding. I stole the engine from the Nomad, painted and modified it to fit and added spark plug wires. I have some cleaning up to do to it still, but this is what it will look like.

No magic floating generator. I’ll add a bracket. I think I’m going to cut it down to make it and alternator instead.
