looks like another great build, Keyda. I have been meaning to try PPP but nobody in my area carries it…Hello, Amazon.
Looks good Keyda, I love what you did to this build. As for my Kingfisher build, go to page 8, I have Flicker links to my builds. Please stop on by!
Toshi
Seems no one here carries it either, I ordered it online. It makes my life so much easier. I tried a few different puttys. The Testor’s one, Squadrons, and Tamiya’s, but I really like the water clean up of the PPP, along with it’s easily sanded. I don’t worry about making a mess knowing I can clean it up very easily.
Primed the top, then had to wait an hour. I hate the waiting. That is how I usually end up messing up my paint job, not waiting long enough, lol.
Can’t really tell in the pic, but there are some gaps that need more putty, and some more sanding needs to be done. I love/hate how primer shows all the flaws.
Underside looks good. No seam work here, since those seams are on the real plane.
Now to wait another hour before I can touch it.
Thanks for the info on the size. I have a 72nd kit but didn’t kow it was as big as that.
I am a fan of the Luft 46 aircraft and thats probably why the 117 apeals.
Yours is coming on really well. You have got to grips with that filling.
Thanks Bish!
Round 2 of putty and sanding.
As I said, I’m not concerned with how much of a mess I make when using PPP, lol.
After some cleaning up.
Round 2 of primer.
I’m pretty happy with the results. Might be a few small spots that still need some attention, but not many. I’ll then sand the whole plane and get it as smooth as I can. I’m going with a gloss black paint, no point in painting it flat, then glossing it to do decals, then spraying flat again.
Once I do get the gloss black on it I’m going to give it at least a day to cure, maybe 2-3 days even. Just so I can be sure no paint is going to lift when I mask off around the landing gear bays to paint them. Hopefully this method works out.
Got the topside and landing gear doors painted. Waiting a few hours for it to dry before I paint the underside. Then I’m going to give it a few days to cure before painting the landing gear bays.
Nice finish on the gloss black. That is my worst nemessis. What brand of gloss black did you use if I may ask ?
It was Testor’s, in the little rattle can.
Nice job on the gloss black. Looks like glass!

Thanks Toshi! It’s not as smooth looking as it in the pictures, I think I’m going to leave it along though. I get to a point where I’m trying to make it look better, and land up screwing it up and making it worse, lol.
Took the thunderstorms rolling through as an oppurtunity to paint the landing gear and bays.
I finished painting the underside later on the same day I did the top.
All the white bits, landing gear, doors, wheels, and the bays.
Moment of truth later, we’ll see how it turns out! Fingers crossed!
Spent the rest of the evening working on the F-117.
I was displeased to find paint had bled under the tape. I won’t be spending extra money on Frog tape again. I made sure it was burnished down really well too. Not a big deal, touched it up.
Landing gear and doors all glued in place.
Decals all done, and flat coat applied. The decals were such a pita! They curled up so bad. I used micro set, and sol with them. Some still wrinkled a bit, and I got some air bubbles. I’m honestly surprised I got them on there at all!
Should have this finished up tomorrow. I just have to pull all the masking, glue the canopy and ladder into place, and do come touch ups.
This looks great Keyda… another great build. [Y]
Cheers, Mark
Thanks Mark!
Finished her up this morning. Decals were the most irritating part of this build. They were almost 30 years old, so I should be happy they worked, lol. This is build #30. Next up will be a B-26 Marauder.
On display with the F-86 Sabre Dog. I’ll have to find another home for it when I build the F-86 Sabre Jet. I’d like to display both F-86’s together.
Did you use the green frog tape or the yellow? I’ve been using the yellow for a couple of years now. it’s almost a clone of the tamiya yellow tape. I also find I get a better edge on it if I use a straight edge and cut a new edge on it with a new #11 exacto blade.
But if your using a rattle can it may not help, I almost always use my AB. except with Tamiya primer.

Keyda, congratulations on finishing another fine model. Thanks for sharing the journey.
It was the green stuff. I made sure I burnished it down real well with my fingernail too. Oh well. Was easy to touch up anyway. I did use the airbrush, maybe I just went a little too heavy with it.
Thanks Shipwreck!
Nice build Keyda! Keep up the good work.

That is one freaky looking aircraft- and it looks awesome! Thanks for posting
Thanks for wip. I enjoyed the trip. Did the decals scatter? or was it a different fustration?
Great job. Looks awesome!
