Monogram 1:24 Huey Gunship

Hi Folks, Anybody build Monogram’s 1:24 Huey Gunship. Would be grateful for any feedback. Any crew available for it?
Regards and Thanks, John.

Hi John!

Well…the Monogram 1/24 Huey is an old kit that was first released in 1964 ( I think ) it was called the Phantom Huey …just like that clear 1/32 P-51 Mustang that has a electric motor and moving landing etc.
Too bad the kit has been so tweaked since then it would be an interesting build…when found, that kit goes for up to 150.00 on ebay.

So its a kinda basic kit…but with some detail and some minor changes it can look decent, The problem with that kit its very difficult for it to NOT have that ‘toy’ look when compared to other choppers at shows and contests and I sware the Rotors and Hub look out of scale as well.

Here is what I did with mine: http://troysmodels.homestead.com/ModelsModelsandModels.html

Hi Papa, Thanks for your reply, like your website, some nice stuff there and variety. Bought the Revell Huey 1:32 recently- had to return it to shop, two major faults and plenty of small ones. Monogram 1:24 kit available from Antics (UK) for about $60. Panda have some 1:35 Hueys, know anything about them?
Many Thanks, John.

Phantom Huey or Heuy Hog?

Hello John!
Thanks for the kind words! [:D]

Do you live in the UK?..If so… DO NOT pay that much for the Monogram 1/24 Huey kit! …we can work something out and I will send one to you. They are only about $27.00 here in the U.S.
Unless your price is 60.00 U.S. then I guess that is much better when converted to the pound?

If you know a cheap or easy way to get a hold of Flightpath’s or Heritage cockpit dress up kit for the Airfix 1/24 Harrier GR3 we can trade! ( never hurts to ask…70.00 to 80.00 UK pounds is a bit too much for me right now )

Cheers!

Phantom Huey ( as in the original 1964 release ) I guess it was modeled after a Huey hog with the side rockets and all…with out the nose turret.

As a note, all HUEY gunships can be refered to as hogs, the models mounting the M-5 subsystem(turret on the nose) and two(2) 19-shot rocket pods(2.75in FFAR) was refered to as a heavy hog. The term “hog” comes from all the weapons hung on it. The term “slick” refers to HUEY’s used as troop carriers, because they lacked all the weapons except the door gun mounts.

helicopters don’t fly, they beat the air into submission

Thanks John,

I like that! [8D]

I have plans for this one! Corrected parts, a new panel, weapons, gear boxes…

Chief Snake

Fantastic! I need a 24th scale one to fit between my 1:18 and 1:35th UH-1Cs!
Chris, any plans for a 1:18th scale UH-1 update for the 21st Century toys Huey?! [;)]

Chief,

YOU ROCK!

That might get me to build that helo again!

The things I found the most frustrating and what the 1/24 Huey kit really needs the most is:

Cabin floor, Pilot and Co-pilot seats, crew doors with hinges?, main panel cover ‘instrument shroud’?, upper consol, side interior bulkheads, CLEAR PARTS FIT!! [xx(] …that was the worst part! I had to build up plastic on the edges and use my own thermo formed styrene for ALL the glass on that kit! ( talk about old molds! ) [8)]

It may be one of your most expensive or comprehensive kits yet but it will be worth it!

People who know that kit said I was insane for the work that I put into mine …Too bad the effort for the body wasn’t as much as the interior…but it was a project that I completed after it sat for almost 3 years. ( I kinda rushed it )

I have recomended COBRA COMPANY to all kinds of builders who have never heard of your stuff …I hope I have generated a little business for ya.

Still gotta order the set for the 1/48 Sea knight ‘BULL PHROG’

Hi Papa, Thanks for your offer to send me a Huey from the States but the import duty and charges into Ireland cost a bomb. It’s just not worth it. A lot of people are returning stuff to States rather than pay costs. I’ll postpone making a decision on what to buy at the moment as I’m still working on other projects at present, main one is Trumpeter’s 1:16 T-34. I have four other kits backed up after that so I would love to complete them before I buy anything else, but. . . .
Thanks again , keep well,
John.

No problem pal!

Sounds like a cool project! [8D]
