Monochrome guide?

I have the Rhedosuars from The Beast from 20,000 Fathoms and am considering do it in black and white, like the movie.

Anyone have any suggestions for how-to?

(and yes, I am also googling)

I have nothing to offer except that I had to look that up as I’ve never heard of it or the movie and it looks pretty neat. Good luck!

Some time ago I did half a 1/35 vignette in black and white. It was all mostly brush painted. The biggest pointer I could give you is to have as many grey colors as you can find of your preferred brand. Test them out and see how they look before choosing. For me I needed quite a few from a black grey (darkest) to a sky grey (lightest). I also studied a lot of photographs of the subject to understand how to approach the colors.

I did a Build Log of the project. Also definitely do google searches for dios and figs in black and white- there a a few excellent pieces out there that inspired me to try it myself.

Excellent build log. I never thought about doing monochrome, but now…?

Thank you- very kind of you to say. It was an interesting thing to try- I would definitely be up for doing it again. At the time I was very glad to get the black and white done- I was thoroughly sick of seeing grey paint for a while!

I get it. I’ve done two warship builds and I’m sick of gray also. Going to do a P-38J Lightning next (diorama).

Thank you Raphael :+1: ! I wish you the best of luck with your project.

COMART used to offer a grey scale paint set. Unfortunately, they’re no longer available. Check for other sets of grey paints.
