The new VII-C Uboat will be my first ship project ever…however I would like to try another project out but it seems as though I cant find the subject…
I have a friend of mine that I fish with he’s a retired USN Master Chief who was on a Destroyer Tender…The USS Yosemite Sam AD-41(I believe) as well as The USS Shenandoah AD-44 from its commisioning point until it was de-commed in 96…Well I would like to make him a desktop model of this ship(For his birthday)…I know it’s an odd subject and that no one may have a kit for it but anyhelp would greatly be appreciated…
Thanks very much!
Perhaps you mean the USS Yosemite AD-19(looks like they used Yosemite Sam as a mascot) here a series of photos:

Don’t know if anyone ever made a kit, probably not – service vessels aren’t very popular
And here is Shenendoa AD-44

Kits of auxiliary ahips are very rare, even in resin. You MIGHT find one in resin in 1/700 scale, but it’ll take some digging.
USS Yellowstone was AD-41.
Yeah I just realized my goof tim it was the Yellowstone he was on board…I have plenty of refrence photos…just sure would be nice to find a kit…if not it was a nice thought
Chris, there is always scratchbuilding. You might try getting one of Mike Ashey’s books on model shipbuilding “Basics of ship modeling” is great and makes scratchbuilding seem “easy”. Some sites to investigate this subject is www.navsource.org , www.floatingdrydock.com , www.steelnavy.com and www.modelwarships.com
Let me know if I can help any.
It would be worth your while to try the model warships forum … a lot of guys with obscure kits over there.
Good luck,
Bruce
