2.Any scale. Any manufacturer.

3.You must complete the build before a badge can be awarded.

4.Please post pictures. (if possible)

5.Does not have to be OOB any and all AM sets welcome.(scratchbuilding too!)

6.The subject must have been in use/production or combat after 1980.

  1. Country of origin does not matter (not just NATO)

8.HAVING FUN IS MANDATORY!..lol joking, but please try to.

and this looks like it’s gonna be our badge:

This looks like it’s gonna be a great GB I’m psyched I CANT WAIT TILL MONDAY!!!

good luck!

Chris,

I’m psyched, too! My kit will be here on Friday, so I’ll be ready. Thanks for putting this together,Townsy, nice job[tup]

Hey, so is this the offical thread? Or the one over in the GB section?

About the badge - like the background pic, is there any way to spruce it up a bit? Not saying I don’t want the current one…just need it a bit more “modern armor flashy”. [8D]

OK, put me down for a Stryker. After all it’s close to home for me anyway. I used to work down there where they cut the transmission cases and setup the double drop box on the end of them for the all wheel drive. Now all I need to do is to find a kit (and of course who makes a good kit), and then find an actual pice to use as a model. I’m just now getting started on the arty group build. Guess this means I’ll just have to work alittle harder.

Yea this is probably gonna be the official thread (not the one in the GB section). and about the badge I dont really know how to make one but if someone wants to or if fantacment wants to spruce his up a bit thats ok. and thanks RandW although it couldn’t happen without all you guys!

You forgot to post the cut off too, didn’t you? it was 80’s, right?

I am honored you are using the badge Icreated yakkosan. I bow to you. It’s gonna be refrshing, finally someone doing a modern gb, and a modern Jap vehicle. They had some rather lousy stuff back in WWII, but I look forward to seeing the modern one in this GB.

EDIT

I can’t wait until the start date either. Been driving me uts I can’t work on my Stryker, shame on you making me wait like that to build my own kit. LOL. Is all good though. Gives me time for some research and maybe I can be the one who comes up with corrections for inaccuracies. Wish someone had an interior out for this thing. I just got the Eduard turret interior for my Bradley. Maybe I can find enough reference to scratch one for the Stryker. I used to look at these during testing on Ft Lewis in Washington with my Grandfather who was retired Army. Spent 6 months with him and we were on the base all the time. Even camped out for 2 months there.

It’s rule no. 6

p.s. i just realised this is my 100th post![party]

Hey, when were you at Ft. Lewis? I was stationed there at the end of my army career. Nice base, and bucketloads to do in the (rainy) Northwest. Where did you camp out? Because I camped (“bivouaced”) plenty out there. [(-D]

Greetings…Im back into the hobby after many years, having fun with my builds…could I join the GB? Im not very good, will be my first tank builds in 30 years! I have a ESCI Leopard 1A3 A4 (Canadian) and Hasegawa Leopard 2 (W German), both 1:72. Ill start them both and hope one comes out ok! Cheers, Jim

definently jmart we’d love for you to join i’ll put you on the list.

Welcome to the GB JMart! If one of the rules was that we have to be good model builders to be here, they would not have let me in the door!

Hello!

I’m relatively new here to the forums, and I’d like to join in on the GB if possible. I’m a bit of a GB noob, this being my first.

I just reciently picked up the 1:35 Trumpeter M1126 Stryker, and I’ll be using that for the GB, along with the Trumpeter Detail Set for the Stryker.

Can’t wait to get started!!

Later

Welcome to the forums and the GB’s whiskeysix the more the better!

Me and gramps actually camped. We setup out by chambers lake. Go inside east gate a mile or two, and then take a left, go about 1/4 mile you have a fence that says live shells flying overhead, but it hasn’t been used for artillary forever. Anyway keep going and the road forks, take the left fork down to the lake, and there is a covered area out there. We setup our trailers there for awhile. This was quite a few years ago, back when the abandoned airstrip outside of main base wasn’t being used for training excercises. It was being used by Radio Control Pilots.I would say somewhere between 2000 qnd 2003. We did alot of 4 wheeling out there as well. I love Chambers lake. When were you there?

Welcome WhiskeySix. I’m also doing the Trumpeter Stryker. Not using the detailing set, but I may be picking up the Warrior models set for it, not sure yet. Will have to take a better look at it Tuesday night at the shop. It would be great to compare notes.

Ok, I went over to the local hobby shop this afternoon to look for a Stryker. They had two different ones. One from AFV and the other from Trumpeter (I think anyway). They look the same on the box, but one has got to be better than the other one. So which one do I want?

gary

It’s hard to say… from the reviews I’ve read in FSM and online, they are fairly similar. I know the AFV version comes with clear plastic components, and the Trumpeter (the one I bought) doesn’t. Both come with a vinyl tires, and I think they both have a PE fret. If you are going to go with a straight “out of the box” build, the AFV kit is probably slightly better, but more expensive. I chose Trumpeter because it’s cheaper, and I will be using an after market PE detail set (the one Trumpeter makes). If you intend to use an PE detail set, (Eduard, Voyager, Trumpeter), go with the Trumpeter and save yourself a couple bucks.

[#ditto] According to the reviews the AFV will build better OOB, as whiskey said if you plan on using AM detail set go with the trumpeter. Perth has a side by side review of these two kits, see which one you like.

Welcome to the GB and the forum WhiskeySix, that trumpeter PE set looks sweet for the stryker, should be a fun build.

Here’s the link to the review RandW was talking about:

enjoy!

Jmart, welcome back to the hobby, and welcome to the Group Build. I’m glad I’m not the only one building 1/72 scale armor here!
