modeling water

Besides the last post on modeling water using foil I have not seen anything on this subject. Could someone give suggestions on how to do this? I’m sure like most things involving this hobby it just takes time and practice to master, but the pictures of models that are displayed this way look 100 times better.

I’ve seen all sorts of material used for water. putty, celluclay, foil. The bottom line is how you paint it. Saw a guy’s work on the Armorama net that was made from Celluclay, but his paint job was so fantastic it looked real. For lake and harbor water there is that pour stuff you can get from woodland scenics that looks great for shallows.

I was wondering about this stuff. If you paint the base various shades of blue, could it be used for deeper water. I’ve got several 1/350 ships I want to do in water.
