Just curious if any one has tried this or has an idea of how one could achieve the effect for a fighter modeled in flight? I’ve been tossing the idea around to add some dynamic flair (pardon the pun) to a current WIP and some future builds. I think it would look pretty damn awesome.
That would be impressive! One issue may be the space required to properly display it, as the aircraft is constantly moving away. Maybe a forced perspective, head on display would help, especially for something like a C-130.
Only thing I can think of is fiber optics. Have an LED in the fuselage near several fibers. Glue the fibers so they are diverging. Paint fibers white except for a small area at tips. Be sure to use a paint that does not etch fibers.
Suggest you start at 1/144.
Don! How’s it going! Been awhile (for me at least!). That’s a great idea, never considered that. I think what you suggested plus I was thinking that maybe adding some stretched and thinned cotton to the fibers to add that “smoke effect” and we may have a winner. I will have to play around with that and see how it comes out in trials…
That would be a beauty. I’ve seen a pic of a 130 with a full on flare ejection. With all the smoke and flame in the airflow and tip vortices, looked like angel wings.
