Model skill level: what the... ?!!?

Hello friends.
I was wondering who comes up with the skill levels for models such as DML, Italeri or Tamiya.
I have browsed some sites that claim a certain model is “Basic” and another site claims that the same model is “Advanced”.
Is there some kind of official way of telling?

I don’t know. That’s a good question. It really doesn’t matter which skill level the model is with me. I can mess them all up equally well [:D][;)]

a guy with a case of Budweiser

Revell, has a listing of 1-3 of toughness, but to my knowledge, it is the only one who does it. If you want to know, just ask us on the forums—or read many reviews as you can get your hands on!

maybe it’s based upon the equipment requirements (or the patience lvl!!! haahhah)
for example, revell lvl1 doesn’t need any glue or paint

There are several ways different manufacturers label the skill levels. Revell of Germany bases it on part count. Revell-Monogram bases it on glue vs. snap vs. # of parts vs. inclusion of PE parts.

I’ve got the Revell of Germany HMMWV kit in 1/72 scale. It builds into a pair of Hummers the size of Matchbox cars. It is skill level 4.

LOL [(-D]

Well, lets take the

DML - T-34/76 Mod 1941

VS.

DML - T-34/85 Mod 1944 Medium Tank
http://www.militaryhobbies.com/product.cfm?ProductID=236

VS.

Tamiya - JS3 Stalin Heavy Tank

VS.
Italeri - BM13 “Katyusha” Rocket Launcher

As you can see, all these models are in 1/35 scale, funny thing is, I have seen different websites that claimed all these models enywhere from “medium” to “advanced” skill level. I cant remember the sites [xx(] because sometimes I go on a model review spree and read 20 webpages at once getting lost easly, but one thing I can guarantee is that I seen the same exact models on different sites claiming that the exact same model is “basic” on one site, and “advanced” on another.
