Model Cellar "Kettenhund," 1/9 scale

We start with the Zundapp KS750 motorcycle/sidecar. This is now put out by Italeri, but it’s actually an ESCI kit dating back to the mid 1970’s. It’s aged pretty well, even with some soft details. It looks like Italeri reworked the molds a bit, though there are still a lot of sink holes and ejector pin marks to deal with, many in really inconvenient and obvious places. They’ve also replaced the original soft, hollow tires with solid, heavy rubber tires, which have a seam that’s hard to remove. I replaced the ridiculous plastic tubing used for wiring with lengths of flexible plastic rod, varying the diameters. I reworked the kit jerrycan and added the seam. The back cushion in the side car was remade with a lump of Super Sculpey. The seat cushion is from the Model Cellar figure kit, and is meant to accommodate the dog. I’m not completely happy with the weathering yet, but I’m working on it.
I did this figure about a year ago, more intrigued by the dog than soldier, especially with his macho-boy-Look-At-Me-And-My-Big-Gun pose. No German soldier I’ve ever seen ever held an MP-40 like that. Dumb! So, I cut the arm apart, added a new hand from an old ESCI 1/9 scale figure, and sculpted a new sleeve with Milliput. It’s not perfect, but I feel it’s more in character–certainly more realistic. The dog and soldier and finished with artist oil colors, after priming with acrylics.

Love the weathering. The figure is done very well. Love the dog too.

Love the doggo! Also, really nice job with the mods to the soldier’s arm. I agree that your version looks much better than the original.

Excellent job on the bike and those figures! That leather/rubberized suit worn by the rider and those saddlebags looks so realistic. I’ve got all of those 1/9 scale motorcycles/vehicles in my stash and would love to get these Model Cellar figures for them.
