Model Box Art... as decor

I thought you folks would appreciate my living room wall that’s got a collage of airplane model box art that’s been decopaged onto wood planks.

Artwork for models is usually very dynamic with lots of action and dramatic cropping.

I lucked out one Saturday years ago when a co-worker who was at a garage sale called me and asked me if I wanted “a box of airplane photos. They’re only 10 bucks. You can pay me on monday.” Sure, I said (sight unseen). I was completely delighted when I saw that they weren’t photographs at all. They’re airplane model box-tops! These were stored for years in the box in my home. I thought they’d go in the garage, as I had no more wall space in my home. When I moved I gave them a place of prominance in the main room! The dragon kite is from Bali (Indonesia) I once had a girlfriend that vacationed there and brought it to me as a gift. (as a carry-on on her flight home!) …what chick!

I like it. You should be an interior decorator.

Model box cover art, like album art, is cool. I always hate throwing the old boxes away because I like the artwork. Too bad my wife has total control of the decor of the house…except my office and hobby room that is.

Since I have a shed where most of my modeling work is accompoished, I’ve taken some ‘box art’ and put them up on the cabinet doors as reminders of what I’ve built and upcoming builds.[:-^]

That’s a very cool idea, thanks for sharing! [tup]

I also have some great box art I put up-- one of my favorites is ICM’s MiG-3 over Stalingrad. However-- my favorite art I have up is the profiles done by Thomas Meyers that separate the clear sprues and decals from the rest of the kit. His Dauntless and Avenger profiles are awesome!

I’ve hung the boxes of the kits I’ve done review builds of. Some of the pristine tops I have from old kits I am planning on framing just to preserve the artwork.

That’s really cool, and I counted no less than 10 kits that I’ve built at some point in the past. Some of those are quite old, as I recall.
