OK I have some questions on MM line of Matal paints, one do you have to seal them, i have seen a sealent for them sold but is it realy neccisary? Two, do you have to do anything special with them after you paint with them?
I don’t use metalizer sealer for anything. If it’s non-buffing metalizer and no weathering or masking is going to be done to it, I leave it bare. The non-buffing ones don’t rub off like the buffing ones do. Aside from that, I cover MM metalizer with Testors clear coat lacquers that come in 1 oz jars for airbrushing. You can even use masking tape when coated with that. Pastel chalk won’t stick to bare metalizer, but it will stick to semigloss or flat clear lacquer.
The buffing metalizers don’t seem to be good for actually buffing them. They do shine up and all that, but they rub off. You can rub 'em off right down to the plastic easily. So, I just skip the buffing there & do a lacquer clear coat on those too. Anything that I want to shine like that is a job for Alclad II or Spaz-Stix, afterall.
MM enamel Chrome Silver 1790 is awesome.
OK thanks for the information, i saw the sealer stuff and it threw me for a loop. Thanks for clearing that up for me.
One more thing that i almost forgot, are they ready to go right out of the tube (Slap it in your airbrush and paint) or do you have to thin them first?
For almost every kind of spraying you might do with those, they don’t need any thinning. They need thinner if you want to try to shoot an ultra thin line though for a touch up or something, but they usually don’t behave. Seems like they need the needle to really open up before they’ll catch onto the air, and that results in a splat.
Ok, I think i got what you said. Don’t need thiner
All MM Metalizers are usually prethinned for airbrush use. As far as using a sealer is concerned, if the paint rubs off when touched, it needs to be sealed. If you don’t want to buff it that is. Hence buffing and non-buffing types of Metalizer paints.
