Mixing enamels and oils?

I recently read that enamels and oil paints can be mixed, apparently indescriminently. Is this true? And if so, can I assume they can be airbrushed, if properly thinned? Opens up a whole new world of paint combinations!

Though I imagine it would take roughly forever for the finish to cure properly…

Some will mix, some will not because the oil is not compatble with one or more of the components in the enamel. it is also likely that the character of the finish will be affected in some way. The possible consequences to the cure time you have already mentioned.

I’ve mixed Winsor Newton oils with Humbrol enamels with good results, but only for brush painting. Never tried it with an AB, but I suspect the pigments in oils would cause some issues.
