How good are they?
for around 10$ sale price.
Is 1/400 a decent ship scale for a man who knows (since two efforts I made make them look too toy like even after some drybrush and weathering *you can imagine before that)…thanks.
Hi Thyamis I’m mainly an armor modeler, but one day I decided to try something different. Went to the hobby store and bought a Type VIIc by Mirage. They are pretty small but it went together very well. Most of the parts are really small. And I mean small. If anything falls on the carpet good luck finding it. But in the end I really liked it. I even went back and bought the last two they had on the shelf. A later war type VII and a TypeIX. The Type IX is a little longer. Hope I’ve been of some help. Mike
I didn’t build Mirage subs, but I built the 1/400 V106 World War 1 torpedo boat. It went togeather well, was easy to add photoetch to and was small enough to model “in water” ; actually painted acrylic gel. If you buy photoetch there are ones made just for those models. I found the railings awful to work with and ended up using spare Tom’s model works railing. The problem with the Mirage railing was that each stanchon (the verticle part that stands up) was an individual wire, no rim around the base if you will. It made super glueing it to the hull a night mare (for me anyway), globs all over, so I ripped it out and put Tom’s in. [:D] Other than that it was a great kit. Got lucky and managed to get an honorable mention (4th ?) at the spring Seattle IPMS show, so if anything was wrong it wasen’t the kit by Mirage; just me.[;)] If the sub is as good as the boat it’s a nice kit for the money. Get the P.E. too.
Have fun…

They are a decent little kit for the price and when you throw in the photoetch they look twice as good (and twice as expensive). Here’s a link for pics I did of the Type llD:

Hi Thyamis,
Hope you finally got your Mirage Bi-plane. The subs are very good when combined with the P/E. Mirage are planning on releasing a series of Kits to make the Sub pens in France. the complete diorama was on display at the German Toy fair.
