Got this one at Hobby Lobby yesterday with a 40% off coupon. I’ve wanted a stretched C-130 for a long time, and I needed something to do to keep from trying to go to fast on a 1/32 Special Hobby P-36A for the Pearl Harbor GB. I’m working on the aluminum finish on it now and there is a lot of that’s not good enough do it over going on with it. This C-130 may be done too soon to help! Fit is excellent and it looks pretty accurate to me. I did notice it doesn’t have the funny angle at the top of the rudder so I sanded that in. If I was Lockheed I woulda fixed that, looks all wrong. I painted the floor inside Nato black but no one will ever see it even with the loading ramp down.
Finished this one up today, the ultimate trash hauler. Nothing too much to report in the way drama during the build. Good fit, good decals, decent instructions although a little research enhanced some of the details in the paint. I used the decal for the cockpit glazing, to escape masking all those itty bitty window panes and I’m not sure I am happy with the look of that. Might have been better if the decal had a lighter grey color rather than dead black. Whatever, the C-130 has a face only a mother could love anyway. There are some horseshoe shaped fairings under the fuselage on both sides just aft of the nose wheel on the real thing that are prominent that are not on the kit. I passed on adding them. Also, the kit window decal has two of the lower side window panels on each side, but -30 C-130’s only have the forward one so I cut off that part of the decal. The correct window pattern is on the painting instructions. There are a lot of prop blades to paint, and in addition to tip markings there is also a metal face on the leading edge from mid-blade out. The last picture is of a beauty and the beast variety, I think. Hobbycraft B-47B.
Looks fine to me. I like the comparison with the B-47 size.
I always think of June Allyson and Jimmy Stewart when I see a B-47. Of course Stewart flew lots of planes - B-24’s during WWII and NOT on milk runs! B-36’s, B-47’s (like in the movie Strategic Air Command) and B-52’s after the war.
I happen to love that face! She’s my favorite bird. I’ve done 3 kits and have a 4th in the box still. I see this one at hobby lobby all the time, and keep passing on it, just something about the box art made it look real cheap to me. But after seeing yours completed I may just put it on my x-mas list.
