Hey all. I’m looking to do a wash on a 109 I just clear coated with Testors Glosscote lacquer. I like the results I get with a oil wash but not sure if it’s safe to use Mona Lisa mineral spirits over the lacquer. Anyone have experience with this combo or something similar?
Whether someone says yes or no,it’s always good to test before ruining a build.
Tojo is right on that and I am the one that will say no do not do that. It is acrylic over solvents or solvents over acrylic. To do otherwise is at your own risk.

I would refrain from using a solvent wash over lacquer just to be safe. There are those that will say that lacquer is tougher than enamel but I rather not take a chance at ruining the work.
I highly recommend Flory Washes. You will love the results.
I have seen a lot of people use them around here and I’ve been thinking about giving them a try. Is there a place to get them in the States or just from the UK website? Did a quick search and didn’t find a USA distributor. Can they be used over any clear coat; i.e enamel, lacquer, or acyrlic?
They are available only direct from the UK. They are safe over anything but make sure you do not contaminate the product so only use a dedicated brush for them.

They used to be avaliable fom otehr sites but now, as PJ says, you can only get them direct. But they do have have a set postage of £3.50 anywhere in the world.
I would also echo PJ is saying to avoid any harsh chemical products on Lacquer.
I love Flory Washes for a/c panel lines,but I seem to remember that someone wrote that they don’t work as well with armor washes.
Tojo is spot on again. They are great on aircraft with good panel lines and rivets and over a glosscoat, but on armor with less defined lines and being a flat usually, it doesn’t come off as well. You order direct from florymodels.uk
I forgot to mention that the Flory washes work best over a gloss coat as they come off easily with a damp q tip or a small piece of paper towel. Damp with water is the key, not wet otherwise most if not all the wash comes off. You wipe in the direction of the airflow which creates subtle streaks on the aircraft.
For armor use it is a little different as it will act as a filter if applied over a fat finish, making it more difficult to remove since the flat paint will have a greater grip on the wash. This may be beneficial if you want to dirty up the running gear or lower hull to simulate dust and grime accumulation.
