Military style "cotton swabs"

Back when I was in the Navy you could order cotton swabs with a 6" wood handle and the swab part on one end. These were generally used for cleaning electrical contacts and to get into hard to reach places.

I also found them indispensible for both spot application and removal of paint.

Any idea where these little gems can be found in the civilian world?

Hello
You could try electronics shops as I think they are still used to clean VCR magnetic heads. There are other ones used to clean computer parts ( mainly keyboards) but as far as I know they are made of foam and not of cotton. A solution could be a Radio Shack shop ( I live in France and Tandy shops disappeared long ago, I don’t even know if you still have them, but this was the kind of shop I wanted to point anyway)
Now, in the purpose of spot application of paint in modelling world, a much better choice would be microbrushes.

Jose is right.

I just found them on the Radio Shack web site here:

I thought you were talking about pugel sticks. They always looked like giant qtips to me.

Try medical supply websites. They’re used for “pap smears” of the… ahem… anal canal. Seriously, folks. Probably called “Cotton-tipped applicators”. These have a much bigger cotton tip than the ones at Radio Shack.

Let me guess----you were asleep during either the anatomy and physiology, or the gynecology lectures…[:D][:D][:p][:D][:D]

Don’t know if the other message I send went through. The cotton tipped applicators can be bought at Henry Schein Inc. pjgdds

if your not living in the US, these “q-tips” may also be found in well stocked pet stores… (cats and dogs have pretty long ear canals)
