Mig-21MF

well I got a Academy Mig-21MF and an AIRES cockpit set and I wonder if anyone has any pictures of the cockpit of a real Mig-21MF so that I can paint it correctly.

Also I probably won’t use the AIRES KM-1 seat since I also have a pair of True Details KM-1 ejection seats. One of which I painted by hand and should have a picture up pretty soon.

Never mind about the True Details seat it doesn’t fit in the Aires cockpit tub.[sigh] Looks like I’ll have to use the Aires seat instead which should be interesting since it has PhotoEtch seatbelts.

Don’t know how much this will help, but here is the Aires cockpit I did for my Mig-21 last year.

Rick that is the exact Aires Mig-21MF cockpit that I have. so what color did you use the Blue Gray that Academy says to use for the cockpit or is that a blue/green metallic color? And are you sure the instrument cover that houses the HUD is the cockpit color or should it be black?

Oh yeah Rick do you have any pictures of your Mig-21MF showing how the cockpit tub went into the forward fuselage halves?

The basic cockpit was painted with ModelMaster Russian Interior Green. It’s not a metallic, just looks a little shiney in the pics. I’m not sure of the instrument cover, but I worked from pics in the Squadron Mig-21 In Action book. There wasn’t a real good pic, but from what I could see, it appeared to be in the cockpit color. I don’t have any in-progress pics of the tub in the fuselage, but as I recall it took a bit of surgery on both the resin & plastic to get a reasonable fit. Not unusual with Aires.

so pretty much remove the locating ribs for the kits cockpit tub and sand down the outer side walls of the Aires cockpit tub right?

Here’s my attempt at the Academy 21 w/ Aires cockpit…sorry about the poor quality of the cockpit pic but it did fit pretty well, although I didn’t reproduce the colors as accurately as it sounds like you will be doing…

well here is what I got done with the Aires Mig-21MF cockpit tub

and I also got started painting the FM Mig-21PF cockpit out of the Mig-21PF detail set.

I know the pics might not be real good.
