I am interested in starting up a Group Build which focuses on probably the most critical battle fought by the US Navy, USMC and the USAAC during World War II; The Battle of Midway.
I am writing this to gauge whether or not to proceed with finding reference, creating badges, (One for the Japanese side and one for the American side…) and any other information I can dig up. I can also use any help designing the badges.
I am a bit of a student of the BoM itself and I do have a lot of info, of which I will readily share should anyone need it.
So, if this is something you wish to engage in, please let me know and I will get the ball rolling.
I am looking at a start date of January 1, 2027 till June 8th, 2027.

That IS along the lines of what I am looking for, Karl. I was thinking of each side, US and Japan, having the badge a little more zeroed in on themselves respectively? Of course, depending on what your building would determine which badge. Also, who says you can only build one kit, right?

No problem, Karl, neither do I but I do appreciate the ideas you floated, they look terrific! I might just use one of them, tweak it, but I’ll give you credit for the idea.
I suggest AI as well - so easy, but do look for the bugs. I’ve used it a couple times including generating my avatar. I have interest and kits - I’ll be a maybe.
I am interested in this group build. Mark me as a maybe as well. Been wanting to build a japanese ship… seems the heavy cruiser Tone would be a good fit!
Six months might be tight for a lot of people, myself included. what would you all think about a November first start date? That might be tough as well with the holidays approaching, but what say you?
November 1 might help some people, but for me the bigger issue is my build schedule. I’m pretty well booked up through the Seattle model show in April, and after that I’ll be working on something for Nationals, which will likely be a helicopter—and I’m pretty sure that won’t work for Midway.
I’m definitely interested in this group build, but realistically I’d be much more likely to have room to start something after June than before it. If the group build were to run through the end of 2027, though, I’d be very interested.
I would love to, unfortunately it’s not compatible with my current stash. I feel like participating in at least one group build at a time is healthy though, so I may drop in after it’s commenced should my existing completion rate allow me
I’ve been reading the posts and taking notes. Still working on the rules. I want to open this up to as many builders as can participate. Anyway, here are what I am working on concerning badges. I have to confess, i did NOT come up with this, my son did using AI. Still need a few tweaks, (Like removing the Yorktown Class carrier from the Japanese badge…) and whether or not to use both sides or just the front…which as I write this, I’ve decided to employ the K.I.S.S. rule; Keep It Simple Stupid…
Let me know what you think of the badges so far.
I am pretty much going to go with the individual aircraft picture on it, one for the Japanese builders and one for the American builders. And, If someone builds both sides; both badges.
I am also leaning on extending it past the actual BoM Dates to make it a full year, and maybe creating a badge for the folks who finish a build by June 7? I’ll keep the build going though for the year anyway?
