Hi - I heard tell somewhere of a forced perspective diorama of a mid-air collision between a B-17 and… something else? I think the B-17 had motorized props.
Anyone know what I’m talking about?
Thanks

I believe that diorama was shown in an old issue of FSM. There’s an index of all the issues on this site somewhere, I’d check there first.
In the meantime, here’s a cool B-17 model showing damage from a mid-air collision:

Regards,
I think it was a 109???
Lynn Rowley of IPMS-North Central Texas won big at the USA Nats several years ago with the diorama you describe.
Interior of the B-17 fully detailed where torn open Shreded metal where the collision occured. The engines turning with pager motors.
The Me-109 fully detailed with shreded torn metal.
Quite impressive to see in person - and to see the parts as they went together
There is an awesome painting at the 8th Air Force Museum in Savannah GA of a B17, that had collided with another B17 and the 2 had locked together. They were actually able to fly back to England conjoined. I can’t remember if the crews had bailed and let the 2 a/c crash or if they had made the landing.
I always thought this would make an impressive diorama.
This is the real B-17 of the incident depicted in the dio in question. IIRC, this took place in the mediteranean theatre.
The same plane after landing:
Did you know that the fuselage collapsed when the personnel door on the right side between the waist and the tail was opened after landing. That shows the strength of the B-17.
I saw that dio in person. I had to go back over many days to look at it. Each time I looked I remembered saying to myself “how the heck did he do that?” That dio deserved any and all awards it won.
Cheers,
Max Bryant
Ah, yes! Thanks much, all of you. Those pictures of the actual plane are great. Are there any pictures of this dio floating around in cyberspace? I looked for “Lynn Rowley” but haven’t found anything…
Thanks again.
