Microscale Microsol Flat

I sprayed this on a model as a flat coat after weathering (no decals) but the model appears to have a satin surface now, did I use it incorrectly?

Are you talking about Microsol or the Microscale Flat varnish. Microsol is a decal setting soloution and is not meant to be sprayed on the model.

If it is the varnish, it could be its not been mixed properly. I used to use it until a few years back but had some many issues with it i switched to somthing else.

I did a search for the so-called Micro Sol “flat varnish“and didn’t find such a product. Micro Sol and Micro Set are both used for dealing, not a clear coat varnish finish.

Also available in gloss and satin finishes.

Yes, that’s what i used, I’ve used it before as a flat coat, and it worked nicely, I thinned it with denutured alcohol, as spraying straight out of the bottle wouldn’t work.

The denatured alcohol may be part of the problem. This stuff is supposed to cut with water when airbrushing. On the manufacturer’s website, you can find specific instructions on diluting the flat coat for best results.

Well it says on the bottle thin with water or alcohol, and i used 70% Isopropyl alcohol.

That’s the confusing part of the OP. It’s not Micro Sol Flat; it’s Micro Flat. I have never heard of this one, but thanks for introduction.

Nice catch. I couldn’t find it in Micro Mark website.

I probably would have used universal acrylic thinner instead.

Me neither. We all learn something new everyday - even the oddball products.

What is a “universal thinner”?

That product has been around for ages. I have a couple of bottles 20+ years old. I believe mine which is the old formula thins with LT but the current one thins with water.
