Checking in and reading some of my Dad’s (Berny13) old posts. I sure do miss hearing his stories firsthand, and getting quizzed by him on aircraft subjects. He seemed to have a computer library in his head when it came to aircraft knowledge. Some of the stories he posted about on here, I’ve heard before, some were/are new to me.
Me being USAF Aircrew Life Support/Aircrew Flight Equipment from 86-08 I really didn’t pay much attention to the aircraft. I only did 3 years on Fighters, the majority of my career was on Special Operations C-130s.
List of aircraft I supported.
OV-10A Bronco
F-15A, B, C, D Eagle
MC-130E Combat Talon
MC-130N, P Combat Shadow
HC-130N, P Combat King
C-130E Hercules
C-130E-II Hercules
C-130J Hercules
C-130J-30 Hercules
WC-130H Hercules
WC-130J Hercules
NC-130A Hercules
NC-130H Hercules
C-9A Nightingale Medivac
C-9A Nightingale SACEUR Transport
T-39A Sabreliner
T-38C Talon
MH-53J Pave Low
Reading his tail number story on here, reminded me about two of our aircraft.
MC-130E 62-1843 lost Dec 65, was replaced by 64-0506 a CIA used bird with similar modifications.
MC-130E 63-7785 lost Jun 66, was replaced by 64-0507 a CIA used bird with similar modifications.
The odd thing about these two birds, is while 64-0506 has a data plate showing 64-0506, its tail number is 62-1843, same thing with 64-0507 it has a data plate showing 64-0507 and a tail number of 63-7785.
So these two birds (62-1843 and 63-7785) where shown as lost/destroyed then magically reappear a few years later. But aircraft 64-0506 and 64-0507 just suddenly ceased to exist on paper.
