Metal decking

Hi gang!

Fairly new here and loving it. I’m working on a 1:35 kit-smash/scratchbuilt diorama of something similar to an oil rig platform…kind of an industrial airship docking station. It’s my first time doing something like this, but I’m feeling inspired and just going for it and figuring it out along the way. It’s been inspired heavily by the Ian McQue ships that I recently bought over at www.industriamechanika.com. If you like funky stuff and haven’t seen these, check them out. I love them!

My question…I want the decking on the dock to have an industrial metal decking look to it. Either a gridwork or a crosshatch metal like the decking in a submarine might have. I can’t seem to find any styrene sheets or ready made materials that have the right look. I found styrene sheets that look like corrugated roofing, but that’s not the look I want. And the ready-made dio bases I find are all cobblestones and such. Any ideas, either of ready-to-go products that exist that might capture the look, or creative materials you’ve used to create a metal decking look? Any ideas would be appreciated!

Try Walther’s . I found this on page 20. search their site, you will find all sort’s of stuff you CAN’T live without !

Plastruct makes diamond treadplate sheets.

Try burnishing aluminum foil down over textured materials, and then cutting pieces.

Thanks, all, for the suggestions! Phil H, this look exactly like what I’m seeking. Not sure if the scale is right on the money, but definitely worth getting some and finding out. Thanks a ton!

Hi;

Thought I would add this . I was at Hobby - Lobby yesterday . Now in the rail scenic section they had " Diamond Plate " In H.O. Two Sheets to a package by MRC . That’s all I know .

MicroMark also has Diamond Plate sheets. Search for Item #: 85381 on their website.

RinnyR;

Listen , I found Diamond Pattern steel plating also in " N " scale .That’s 1/160 . It can also be done as suggested .Find a 1/35 scale kit with this feature .

Then , make some embossed sheets,cut what you need and save the rest for later .
