Mein Tiger ist jetzt hier!

[:p] Yikes! I got a visit from UPS this afternoon and the biggest box I have ever received came through the door. My 1/16 Full Option Tiger arrived and man is it huge! I’ve already begun assembling the various aftermarket parts that I’ll need to make my conversion… 1/16 King Tiger turret parts for the mid-late model commander’s cupola, Zimm-it-rite from R&J products, and I’ll be scoping for an aluminum barrel in the next couple of weeks[}:)] . I’m also looking for real steel tow cables and some 1/16 sized German templates for the insignias and numbers. So far, I haven’t had much luck with the stencils because most of the ones I’ve found are in 1/35 scale.[:(] Help!!

Roy

You shouldn’t need a set of stencils for this one Roy. You should be able to paint the insignia on with a 6" brush. [:p]

Now don’t stay up all night playing with your new baby … sounds like you have lots of work ahead of you.

Enjoy [^]

You forget Shermanfreak, that 1. I suck as an artist [;)] and 2. I will be using applying zimmert to this “kitty”. I’ve gathered from the forum that decals silver and I thought that would look crappy, so I thought why not paint the numbers and the “balkancreuze” like the crews had to when they got the machine from the factory after the zimm had been applied. Of course, this might be a moot issue of I cannot find a 1/16 German stencil! I’ll just keep on looking. As for staying up with the new “baby” I was so busy today that I didn’t even get to open the box… and now I have to sit here at work all night. This bites! [xx(]

Roy

The massive project begins!
Why don’t you just blow up those stencils to 1/16 on a copy machine?

Mein Gott!! J-Hulk, you’re an F’en genius!!! Dankeshon!

Now let’s see if you have the solution to my other problem…[}:)]
I have to move the fan outlet on the turret. (Converting from an early model Tiger I to the mid model Tiger.) I have already purchased the parts for the new commander’s cupola, but that still leaves me with a hole near the rear of the turret from where the old fan outlet should have been. Can I sand it down and then seal it with putty?[;)] , orI suppose I could also cover up the hole with a piece of evergreen plastic stock… (Show me what you got! [:p] )

Roy

okieboy,

Can’t wait until mine gets here!! I have my barrel and replacement tracks coming also. If you want, I can send you the links for both. Will be ordering the photo-etched kit on monday.

I was also looking for stencils or decals for this project. I saw a decal sheet that has 1/16 Tiger 1 markings but, it’s not the tank I wanted to do. I want to do an early Wittman piece.

I am also going to be putting my building process up on a website. If you have a digital cam and can send me some pictures of your progress, I will put yours on there too. erush, this goes for you too [:D] We can have a 3 Tiger page.

…The Three 1/16 Amigos? [:p]

[:D] [:D] [:D] Ok, you got a deal!! Shermanfreak will be tossing in his sleep dreaming of 3 Tigers coming after him [:p] [:D]

Eric (also)

I could pull mine out the closet and get started on it, too!
Then there’d be 4!
That Aber set scares me, though.

Not me boys … I sleep like a baby.

No worries on my end …
especially from the 3 1/16 Stooges Amigos [:p]

I don’t even own the kit, and I think I’m starting to have nightmares, if only about that Aber set! Maybe if I’m really nice to the wife…

All joking aside … why not make this into a group build.
Get David to make a sticky post that you all keep posting to with your individual progress. I think it would be great to see how each of you approach this beast and the different techniques and AM parts (if any) that you employ.
Give it some thought guys.

Sherman,

That is an outstanding idea.

Hopefully, David will read through this post and let us know. If not, maybe we can leave him a message directly.

From the count so far, we have 4 members who are starting or will be starting their builds (and emptying bank accounts [:0] )

I have decided to go with Wittman’s 88 kill Tiger (Russia January 14, 1944). Question: After reading Tiger Ace, it places Wittman in Tiger S08…Others have him in S04, does anyone know which of these would be correct?

PS…I have just sent David an email asking him about the “Sticky”

Shermanfreak I’m blaming you for this. [:(!] Now I’m going to have to start building my Tiger I. [:D] [;)] I don’t have room on my desk for the hull to sit [:p] Oh, well. I’ve got to jump in there some time and start it so it might as well be soon.

I’ll join in the fun and photos because we’re the 4 1/16 Tiger Amigos!![:D] (I keep having flashes of Chevy Chase, Martin Short and Steve Martin [:p] )

Eric

ps. I was scared of the Aber set is why I didn’t start before, but I can’t let the fear show now…I’ve been called out [:D] Don’t go toward the light!!! [:p]

okieboy I forgot to mention if you’re getting the Aber set, it has steel cables in it. Real block of wood for the jack base, tubing, wire, etc, etc, etc…[:p]

I was just looking at the set again…I remember why I’s skeerd [:p]

Eric

Larry, Moe, Curly and Shemp

Way to go fellas … this is going to be great … head to head to head to head Tigers.

I’m really looking forward to this project taking off … keep us posted as to the start date.

According to Tiger Volume 1 of the tankpower books and the Tamiya Tiger 1 early kit (theres an option) Wittmans tiger was SO4 ive had a quick look in the Tiger 1 book from Ryton publishing but cant find any mention of the number

Shermafreak. why dont you get the 1/16 Sherman or Pershing,
[:)]

Whoa! You guys sure are psyched up! Hey Erock68, give me the link or location for that decal sheet for our 1/16 scale monsters!! [:p] I’m looking to make my Tiger from the 101st Battalion, so I’m not so picky about the numbers. I’m more picky about the details like the road wheels, zimm and paint scheme. As for pictures, my wife just got a digital camera, the only problem we have is a suitable internet connection. I won’t really get cranking on mine until I have all the necessary components: new air brush, pin vise, evergreen plastic stock, decals, parts from Tamiya, etc…
So, anyone got an answer to my earlier question? “How do you deal with the hole left behind the loader’s hatch on the rear of the turret, when you’ve moved the fan outlet?” Oh yes, the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse are coming now… [}:)]

Roy

okie, I’d fill the hole with card stock and then fill the seams. I think that would be easiest.

This is going to be fun.

Eric

Here is the link.

It won’t let me get the actual page but click “Hussar” in the left column.
