Me109 colours

Can someone tell me what Humbrol paint number is best for painting the interior of the Matchbox Me109 please? It would also be usefull to know the numbers for the main camo. Ive got the kit on its way to me but im making a trip to my local hobby store today and plan to pick up the paints i need now.

I admit I won’t be able to answer your question since I am not familiar with the Humbrol line. But nobody else will either without knowing which 109. The interior was RLM 02 up the the E3 (109 experts… is that right?) from E4 they were all RLM 66.

Here’s an RLM color guide with FS equivilents.

From this site (where else?).

Messerschmitt
Bf109B thru E-3 series: Cockpit areas are RLM Green-Gray 02
Bf109E-4 thru K series: Cockpit areas are RLM Black-Gray 66

There are a number of Humbrol colours that come quite close to RLM02 Grau (Bf.109 cockpit colour up to ‘E’ version, which is the subject of the Matchbox 1/32 kit), but none are spot on. Difficult to be spot on, anyway, since the colour varied so much from batch to batch. Anyway, good starting points in the HUmbrol range are 31 Slate Grey, 102 Army Green, and 224 Dark Slate Grey. Of these, 102 is my personal favourite.

For later versions of the Bf.109, the cockpit would be RLM66 Schwarzgrau, for which Humbrol 67 Tank Grey is a good match.

If you are doing a lot of Luftwaffe stuff, it makes sense to get some accurate paints. There are only a few exact matches for RLM colours in the Humbrol range (Hu.65 for RLM65, Hu.91 for RLM70, Hu.67 for RLM66, and that’s about it). The Xtracolor, Xtracrylix and White Ensign Colourcoats ranges, among others, have all you need.

Cheers,

Chris.

Thank you for the help. I will post some photos as i work on it, i plan to try some new methods with this model. It will also be on the Classic British kit SIG display at Telford along with my Spitfire 24 and Westland Lysander. There will also be a Helldiver in 1:32 scale next to them.

At the moment i can only get Humbrol paints but as soon as i get a job i will be buying Xtracrylics and an airbrush. Im looking forward to the big challenge of an airbrush.
