Well, it seems that my big, fat cat decided that the best place to perch his lardy rump was on top of the beginnings of my Czech model ME 309. When I went to get him off the bits and pieces he scattered them all about…and of course I can’t find one of the exhausts for the engine. I searched high and low and it is nowhere to be found! Argh!! So, I am wondering if you folks could think of a suitable replacement part I could rustle up. I would rather not buy a whole new kit as it seems a waste.
and you could copy the one you have. I don’t do 1/72 scale stuff much so don’t have many spares but I have seen 1/48 scale exhaust that look close to it. Doesn’t really look like a 109 like I thought it would. Looks like some of the P-40 Versions I have seen.
Then you could simple browse the internet Hobby sites for after market exhaust. Quickboost and Moskit make really nice ones. If you can find one close enough to your taste.
Maybe some one has something close in the spares box? That does more 1/72 stuff.
I put the remaining piece up to a 1/48 stuka and it looked pretty close so I may look for some resin stuka exhausts. I thought about casting the piece, I just don’t really know the right way to pursue that and I would guess that the cost would be more, though obviously if I used it often the long term costs would be lower.
I got hooked on it as I use it pretty often It is really messy though. Did you say it is 1/48? May be worth a shot to compare them to a P-40 or P-39 as they have very diff exhaust depending on the type / Version of the Aircraft. You could always look to get a 109 Quick Boost exhaust and just use them instead of the resin so they match. I think they are like $5 and who says it didn’t look like that?
Take a look at these! The moskit looks on the money to me and here is a link for quick boost to look for a match. These are top notch resin and metal kits, Very good details and cheaper than a new kit?
Heck, the more I think about it the less I am concerned about how ‘authentic’ it is especially since 90% of the piece is tucked away inside the freakin’ model! It really looks like I have quite a number of options, which is great.
I have to say though, digressing a bit, that it is AMAZING how easily pieces vanish. My modeling room is mayby 10x10, no carpet, though it is stuffed full with the wife and I’s junk as it also serves as storage, but still! ‘POOF!’ off to some other dimension I guess!
No photos as I am at the very early stages. I have the cockpit semi-together and was starting on the fuelage. I am doing it for a group build(Endgame 1946). I am hoping to get a little done in the next week and post some photos up.
