Seeing as today is May 4 aka Star Wars day, I thought I would post a couple pics of my current dabbling within that universe.
The MPC kit is supposedly about 1/100 scale. Quite basic moulding, with many details that are even shown on the box art being absent. I’m trying to do some basic additions just to busy it up just a little bit. I also ordered a 1/100 scale building to use as part of the base.
I built the Empire Strikes Back boxing of that back in 1981. I articulated the legs with a set of bolts and hex nuts, then I did a bunch of stop motion animation using an 8mm movie camera.
Why haven’t we seen this movie magic?
These AMT/MPC Star Wars kits are “classics” I still remember drooling over these after the original movies first came out.
@fxsti03-42 Probably because the film is 40+ years old and not in very good shape even though I’ve kept it in climate controlled rooms over all of those years. ![]()

I built this model many years ago ("80’s?) and used the rubber band for the neck, so it could be moved around. As you may guess, the rubber band died of old age. I had to glue the neck to the body. So, you might want to take this into consideration. This picture was taken much later, when I started taking pictures of older and new models. Good luck with your build.
What about a spring instead of a rubberband? Having never built one, I have no idea if it is even possible, but thought I would ask. And yes, all rubber bands dry out and die over time. As does elastic bands.
Its been too a long for me to remember the interior details. However, just thinking about how a rubber band would be fitted, I would suggest using a spring with hooks on both ends. Take some measurements, go to a hardware store and try find a spring that will give you enough tension, but not too much, you don’t want to break the mounts. Maybe spring slightly shorter than the distance between the rubber band mounts, with enough tension to hold the head up. Let me know how it works out. Good luck and happy modelling.
