Maximum time between primer and paint

Hi,

I would like to check if there is a maximum time between primer and paint? Say now I’ve got a bit of time so I prime my kits. But from next wk onwards, I will be busy again for a few months to half a yr. If I paint my kits half a yr after priming, is it ok? Or how about a yr later? Would it affect the end product?

No,rushing it is the problem.

Also, leaving masking tape on for a long time is bad. Remove it as quickly as practical.

Some paints and primers have a funny schedule. There is a window when you must not cover them. They will dry to touch and be able to recoat in a given time, but if you do not recoat within that time, you must then wait and recoat later. Usually these can safely be recoated again after 24 hours, or a few where you must wait till 48 hours. Usually the instructions on the can will give this info.

Primer is just basically paint so it won’t present any problem as to how long you leave it on before painting. As Tojo said, rushing is the problem. However, if you do the priming and don’t plan on painting for a long time I’d strongly suggest that after the primer is thoroughly dry to place the model(s) in a box to keep them free from dust and NOT some type of plastic bag or plastic covering as you never know how the plastic will react in long contact with the primer, and or paint for that matter.
