Hi…is there a site or an good reference available to help match a color that’s indicated in the color legend for a model kit to a Brands (Vallejo, Humbrol Tamiya, Model Color, etc…) paint color?
What methods do you use to match or find the correct colors and shades?
I’ve found the following…is this a good reference…are there better alternatives?

If you have an iPhone,there is a great app which has all of the well known colours.
I use this one, you have to download it. You can do searches on it.
If you mean the ‘iModelkit’ app, I agree and there is a free as well as a buy version. Find it in the Apple app store. I use it frequently.
Bish…I’ve downloaded the chart and it’s going to come in very handy…looks pretty extensive…very much appreciated.

I have the paint4models chart downloaded also, but it is easier to use if you just launch it each time
the downloaded chart makes us click on page after page to see all the matches, the Launch option lets you just look for anywhere from 1-10 (or your choice) paint ranges at a time
you can set if for FS number and name, and PolyScale number and name, for example,or you can set if for all fields, type in the last 4 digits of the FS number and only see all the various matches for that color
or you can search for the number in your model kit instructions, leaving off letters, etc,and it will show all the paints that match H-55, for example, just by typing 55 in the search box and looking to the left and right of the Gunze H-55 result
the only warning is that the chart was made from “advertised color” meaning that since Vallejo says Model Color 952 Lemon Yellow is the same as FS x3655 Lemon Yellow, that is where it is on the chart,even though it is really 33793 paint in the bottle, and Vallejo’s physical match for 13655 is really Model Air 71002 Yellow

edit to add: I forgot to say not to worry if you type in a color that starts in a 1, a 2 and a 3 and when you see the list there are slightly different colors and RGB codes for each line,this is one of the charts that “got it right” and the lines are supposed to be different colors for each sheen,the only other option is that the guy somehow “created” different RGB numbers for hundreds and hundreds of colors, lol
I had trouble launching it so I downloaded instead. I’ll have to go try to use it online again.

to launch it and make it work you need to first hit the launch button
then, after the window turns blue and it shows partial progress, it will stop
hit refresh
that most of the time results in the progress going away and then you have to hit refresh again
that third time is the charm, it will load up all the way to the end and you can configure it to your heart’s desire
you get the same as the downloaded pages, only all in one long screen, if you click on “show all”
then to find the matches for example, for the three 1,2, and 33538 yellows, just type 3538 in the search box and hit search
you will get at least three lines of yellow matches,with slightly different “sample” colors when you click right on a line,don’t worry, as the different RGB numbers tell you, those differences are on purpose
(soon there will be a site online that puts a physical paint chip up next to the 595A paint chip, and I hope that someone will come along and compare the A chip matches to the 595B colors to help us decide which of each A chip was chosen to be the B and C chip by the GSA in 1984)
