Master Class Model Building Videos

I saw an advertisement for these videos that have Floyd S. Werner Jr. discussing model building techniques on page 11 of the January 2006 Finescale Modeler. The videos show the build of a BF-109 but I model mostly modern armor, helicopters and jets. They videos sound interesting but I was wondering if anyone had seen them yet and I was wondering if they were worth the money? Thanks.

Just received it last week and finished it a few days later. As a newbie returning to the field, I found it very useful. Five hours + of footage, all relatively well-done. I really enjoyed the different tricks of the trade that I hadn’t yet picked up. All of the different areas are covered, from plastic prep, to contruction, paint, weathering, etc. They’re all chaptered, too, so if you want to go straight to a certain area you can do so from the main menu. Now, since I’m a newbie I might have more to gain from the series than someone who is further along. I wish, in fact, that there were more episodes in the series, and maybe someday they’ll have videos that focus on certain areas, like cockpit finishing, weathering, etc. But I found it to be very detailed, well-organized, and helpful. Altogether, he is a helluva good modeler, and watching his techniques helped me figure out how so many attain such breath-taking results with their work. Looking forward to more in the series. Just my 2 centaroonies. Happy modeling! [2c]

Floyd is out local Me-109-aholic and the video is very comprehenseive, well worth the money. I’m betting if this DVD sells well other subjects will follow.

Guys; thanks for the input. Currently the videos are $40 but go up to $60 net month, so based on your input I think I will pick them up. According to the website there will be more videos to come. Thanks again.

I just got a couple of these DVDs: the NMF and Master Class Clinic #2, featuring working with resin, photo-etch and vacuform canopies. I got these two for less than $30 for the pair. The MCC #2 even still had the resin F4U-1 headrest in the DVD case! They are helpful videos I am able to pick up some new techniques. I will be on the lookout for more of the DVDs from this series if they turn up, especially as they are not on YouTube (which has grown exponentially since these DVDs were released).

Thanks for sharing. Where did you pick up these videos?
