MASTER BLASTER (The Reich Stuff !) "LOTS" of Jagdtiger pics

Well Anthony.
What I was going for was this:
1.The Germans are losing the war.[}:)]
2. Defeat is a month or two away.[:D]
3. No resupply,[xx(] sooooooooo…
4. Anything that can be picked up and could be of use,[:-^] an
old chain or two from an allied wreck, olive drab paint, etc… there can be
a lot of possibilities for a subject like this.

Thank you for your praise and encouragement. [:D]
I’ve been watching your work as it improves. [^]
Looking good!

treadwell,
Wow. [wow]
Thanks for your [:P] appraisement.
Judginging by the [^] majority here…
Looks like I got it [:D] about right.
Man, this tank building and weathering stuff
[XX] just makes my mouth water.

Sorry it took so long to get back, but my head is slowing me down and [(-D] has gotten to big to carry around lately. Really though, [:I] I’m truly humbled by the many, many positive replies.
Thanks.

Steve

Dave,
…How do you get [?] such good tonal variation?..
What I did for the basic color? I mixed my own using “Anita’s” acrylic craft paint from hobby lobby. Painted it - did the future thing and washed with raw sienna. Of course there was Dullcote [:O]. (you never outgrow your need for dullcote) Spray a little buff. Look it over and go back and adjust. Then some serious work with different pastel shades.

Check with my reply to zokissama for some more revelations.

Thank you so much [:D] for your opinion.

Steve

Brian,
Thanks for your kind words. I get “SO” much out of [:D] weathering and going for a “REALISTIC” look. Sorry it took me so long, but I DO try to answer everyone. If 'ya can take the time to look at my stuff - I can at least return[soapbox] with some comment.
Tracks can really rust up overnight. [2c] Seeing as this baby was designed for ambush and for the most part static positioning. Well… alot [:-^] would depend on the weather conditions at the time.
A dio could be [sigh] in the future. I’m still chewing on whether or not [%-)]to do another one.
Steve

schweinhund, cold steel and ackman. Thanks for the encouragement.

Go grab yourselves a Jagdtiger kit and start [;)] building.
The tracks go together great, no problems.

disastermaster,
Your Jagdtiger is definately one hell of a tank. Nicely done and… uh, dont know how to say, I guess a good word wont do the justice.

However I got question for you; I’m always wondering how to create that burned, badly used, badly beat up, rusted color for the side armor you applied. Is it made from many layers of paints ? Is there any metalic colored applied to it ?

Thanks in advanced,

Ben

The realism is definatly inspiring. I’m curious as to what you used for the chains? In one model I plan to do in the future (If I ever find the time) will have chains, but it is a small scale, 1/125 to be precise. Any suggestions on what to use?

Hey Carves.
Thanks for that HUGE vote of [tup] approval.
You asked,
“I’m always wondering how to create that burned, badly used, badly beat up, rusted color for the side armor”

Layers of paint? Yep, that is pretty much the answer. It involves artist (burnt umber) oil paint. You have to let it dry thoroughly. It could take a couple of [zzz] days or [|)] more. Check out my reply to zokissama [%-)] I think. There isn’t any mettalic colors or Mig pigments used on this model. Anything mettalic is (pencil) graphite.
Something to keep in mind. [2c] Anywhere there may be bare metal showing it’s been my experience that “THAT” color goes on last. Unless it’s a chip. My “chips” are usually a real chip that exposes the base color. I always basecoat my models with a dark grayish blue-black enamel color from a can of dollar store paint. Hope [:D] this helps. Get back to me if you need a more specific answer.

Steve

sawdeanz,

…[:I]… all these positive responses are inspiring too! [:D] Thank you. Wait’ll you see what’s next! [:-^]

I got my chain from HOBBYLOBBY but there aren’t [:(] any chains there “that” small. 1/125 would be about 4 times smaller.
The railroad guys at Campbell Scale models carry a 12 inch - 36 links to an inch chain in a black finish For about $4 or less, (item #256) it’s pretty tiny but it is only about three times smaller than the one on my Jagdtiger.
Good grief… [:O] are you going to do a tank in that scale? I thought only Jeff Hearn did that kind of microscopic [(-D] voyeurism. Make sure to pass out glasses. It’s hard enough to see the tracks on a tank in that scale so I wouldn’t worry about the chains [2c] in 1/125. Anyway, here’s a NETSCAPE address for you to look at:

Langley Models (Kits) chain,solder,glue,paint,weathering powder,tools

Hope this helps
Steve
