MASTER BLASTER (The Reich Stuff !) "LOTS" of Jagdtiger pics

I finally got my camera back and now I have to put it to use. [:D]
Here are a bunch of pictures of a “last days Reich defender”

Click on the image you like and it’ll blow up nicely.
(Well… [B)] not literally, so don’t worry about ducking)

Now, here’s a late war Jagdtiger for you to target.

SABOT UP!

Any comments?

I really enjoyed this kit so much I’m thinking of building another Jagdtiger with different paint and equipment.

In spite of your handle, it is clearly not a disaster![:D] The weathering is skillfully done. Are the tracks stock or Fruil? Either way they look like big heavy metal tracks. Ther rust rust looks quite convincing as well. Paint or Rustall?

My overall impression might be taken either as a compliment or a critique, depending upon the effect you were trying to achieve with the heavy weathering. Overall, it is a really good looking build (in as much a JagdTiger may be described as ‘good looking’[:D]), but it looks as though it has been sitting in abandoned in field for a while, rather than being part a working division. The ride height even seems a bit low, as though the torsion bars have maybe sagged a bit over the years.

Wow, this thing shows such a great variety of finishing effects. It is really a wonder to behold. So much variance in the finish, really looks nicely used and abused. There are some REALLY vibrant orange and green hues. I don’t know if that’s just the camera you’re using, of if its really like that, but it looks a little bright.

The scratches are just spectacular. So realistic.

Actually, I think your handle is just right. You’re clearly a master at portraying a vehicle that’s been through disaster. [:p]

Can you please provide some detail as to your colouring and weathring process. How do you do the scratches? How do you get such good tonal variation? How do the sections where the side skirts fell off look so realistic? What about the degradation line between that section and the rest of the upper hull? Ok, I know that’s a mouthful of question, but I see so many things here that I want to try to replicate on my next build.

Looks awesome bro, I really like it. A little too rusty for my tastes but it looks great and realistic! A+ bro I’m in awe

Looks great! Don’t know about all those chains but looks good!

You did a fantastic job on the weathering, although I have to agree with Abarne, it looks like it’s been abandoned. I hope that’s the look you were going for. What are your plans for it, a dio?

ABARNE,

Are the tracks stock or Fruil? Either way they look like big heavy metal tracks. Their rust rust looks quite convincing as well. Paint or Rustall?

Thank you. Shows what you can do with kit tracks. I used spray can paint from the dollar store, a pencil and some pastels from Hobby Lobby. Not too scientific.

…it looks as though it has been sitting abandoned in a field for a while, rather than being…

My intention is to show the desperate condition of german armor in the final days.
Parts were scavenged and anything was pressed into service. This baby was rode hard.
I recently won Best armor and First place at a ipms contest.

I really appreciate your evaluation.

it was the second to last picture that did it for me man![:D]-- the hull colors fadeing and blending together-- the heavy, dark oxidation–rust bleeding from attachment points-- i love it-- it doesnt look to me as if it were left in a field or abandoned-- it looks like it has been through war-- very very nice job dude[8D]— treadwell

Well i must say I agree …very nice job with the rust and color fading. I also would like to hear about how you apply these weathering finishes. Well Done!![8D]

I think you did a great job on your Jagdiger. The weathering look’d great to. [:)]

Bravo![tup][tup] I think we all have slightly different motivations about our build choices, and I personally find it worthy of praise when someone simply gets the most out of stock parts rather than doubling the price of the kit on aftermarket replacement parts. They look so well used, you can practically hear them creak.

You certainly got the effect you were shooting for, and congrats on on the well deserved IPMS award[tup]! If you wanted to throw some humor into your next JagdTiger, you could build the same tank, but factory fresh with a soldier in the process painting the unit number[:)].

Andy

My danged pictures keep disappearing. Gotta go for now. I’ll fix it later.

Terrific Jadgtiger. The weathering, chipped paint, faded paint and rust look very convincing. [:)]

I agree though that the extent of the rust on the tracks make this behemoth look like its been abandoned. Also I’d like to see the tow cables rusted up like the chains hanging off the front of the tank.

Thanks for sharing! Enjoyed looking over those shots.

zokissima,

**…**I don’t know if that’s just the camera you’re using…
yeah, it tends to brighten [8D] things up. You probably see some “RED” places in the tracks in some of the pictures.

…Actually, I think your handle is just right…
The guys in our club said the same thing, [;)] that’s how that come about.

…How do you do the scratches?..
After I add the surface texture I use the knife blade or whatever I pick up, place my thumb or convenient finger where I want it and pivot the tool down and against the surface. [:D] Lastly, scotchbrite or flood with fast drying liquid cement.
Oh, for color I use partly the wash color and colored pastel pencils.
…How do you get such good tonal variation?..
Well what I did for the basic color. I made my own mix using “Anita’s” craft paint. Painted it- did the future thing and washed with raw sienna. Of course there was Dullcote [:O] (you never outgrow your need for dullcote) Spray a little buff. Look it over and go back and adjust. Then some serious work with different pastel shades.
…What about the degradation line between that section and the rest of the upper hull?..
Darn, I built this thing in November and just got the memory card back with the camera. Sometimes I just have to reinvent what I do. [] I pretty much forgot. Of course that solves the trademark clone look of a lot of models. I kinda work on creative energy. The faster I go the faster I get, I get to going and roll and roll …
I believe I just layered some burnt umber haphazardly along the edges and let it dry completely and after future I just let the accumulating washes build up for the final color. Heck, that’s where all the junk runs anyway.

…Ok, I know that’s a mouthful o…
No problem, but a lot of the things I do with this stuff is hard to describe in person [:-^] and even more difficult to put into print clearly.

…You’re clearly a master at portraying a vehicle that’s been through disaster…
That is such an enormous compliment [bow] and I tank you . (pun intended)
Of course, no matter how big, good or whatever you do, there is “**ALWAYS” someone better.

If I can explain or help or whatever… I’m glad to help.

CDNTanker25

Hey thanks.
I like 'em down and dirty. I don’t think I could do a “pretty” tank. My eyes would cross or my hands would cripple up. Might throw a track [banghead] or become impotent. Yeah, Disaster fits it.

Really, thanks.
I love this hobby.

Great jagdtiger! I love the subtile weathering.

Makes me wanna start on mine [;)]

Cheers, Jan [:)]

Looks really good. I like the beat down, war weary look you gave it. great job!

The Jagdtiger looks great my kind of machine the weathering looks fantasic looks it’s been in the field for months,Great build!

That is a super job! I love it. What technique do you use for the scratches? the second and last pics are the best example of what i mean.

David

Can’t add much to what’s been said. Nice buildup with great weathering and camo. Thanks for sharing.
