Maskol over Future -- Issues?

I don’t often use Future/Pledge on my canopies but this time I made an exception. I usually mask complex canopies by framing everything with thin strips of Tamiya tape then filling in the middle areas with Maskol liquid mask. Has anyone had issues using Maskol (or any liquid mask for that matter) over top of Future?

I have had serious issues with using Bob Dively’s Liquid Masker over Future/Pledge. There is something in the liquid maskers that dissolves it, and then it rehardens unevenly, which ruins your canopy. I still use the liquid masker to fill in the middle areas on a canopy, but I have stopped using Future/Pledge to dip them in beforehand. I get nice clear canopies by using Novus instead, and that doesn’t leave anything behind to react badly with liquid maskers.

Yea, I usually try to polish my canopies as well. Was not practical in this case. I found a thread over on britmodeller that echoed what you said. Looks like liquid mask is a no-go with Future/Pledge dipped canopies…

I think the issues with the purple Humbrol Maskol is the Ammonia content.

There are masking agents like Windsor & Newton, & MIG(?) that don’t have it.

I’ve used PVA/Elmers over windows/transparencies before, though I haven’t tested it on top of Future
