Hey guys I was wondering if anyone has used white glue to mask cockpit glass when painting with an air brush. Does it work?
Tried it a long time ago—difficult to control application, and if you leave it too long it can be a bear to remove. There are plenty of liquid masks available, and the worst I’ve used were better, IMHO.
OTOH, if you try it and it works for you, go with it!
It doesn’t strike me as something that is likely to work well. White glus can stick surprisingly well to styrene and is what I usually use to glue the canopies to the fuselage. If coat your canopy with Future to fix any fine scratches and improve clarity, I suspect that the white glue would cause even more issues. For canopy masking, I use Tamiya Yellow tape. It cuts well without fraying. It is very thin so it produces a fine edge. It is flexible enough to handle some compound curving and seals well. It also has a low enough tack to not lift paint or leave residue.

cool thanks guys
If you are using the purple liquid mask by Maskol, do NOT put this on top of Future. It will eat through it and tear up your finish.
Thanks for the warning! [bow]
I use the pactra 1/16 masking tape, and it works quite well.
If you mask the outline of your canopy (or the individual panels) with Tamiya tape and then fill in with Copydex latex glue, it works very well, and can be removed easily with your thumb when the paint is dry. Remember to clean out the brush you used to apply it with cellulose thinner.
This technique works well for masking generally, and is a lot easier and cheaper than using Tamiya tape to mask the whole model.
Cheers,
Chris.
