Hi Guys and Gails all of your idears on masking are great but can any one recommend one to use for my P61 Black Widow It has a lot of frames on it, I allready put future on it and it is curing now so it’s it going to be either liquid mask, tamiya tape, 3m blue tape or the mask which was designed for this kit ,and used the wheel mask on the wheels and it worked pretty good so should I stay with the mask or try the other three products I mention for the canopy . any suggestions would greatly appreciated-thank you
If you have the masks then use them
I haven’t found much on this forum concerning liquid mask, but I just picked up a bottle of MicroMask, hoping to avoid some of the problems with bleeding, peeling off the paint I just applied so carefully, and such. Can anyone tell me how you like the liquid masking products? Anything I should know before I start trying it on the 4 or 5 canopies I have waiting for paint?
Thanks
Bob
I’m working on a P-3C Orion and the frame of the windshield was so faint I decided to tape the frame and liquid mask the glass. I cut thin strips of tape and placed it on the frame part, then applied three coats of the liquid mask letting it dry in between coats. When all the liquid bask was dry I ran a new No.11 blade along the tape with little pressure just to cut through the mask and then pealed the tape off the frame.
I had a bottle of MicroMask but it dried up(last used it 20 years ago so the only thing I could find locally was at a RC shop called Fastmask by Parma International. It has a little different consistency than the MicroMask but I feel it covered the area more easily. If your frame is more pronounced them you might be able to get away with just giving the canopy a few coats of liquid mask, then running a new blade along the frame and pealing the dry liquid mask from the frame part of the canopy.
thank you for your input I ahve some of the same liquid mask also along with the micro mask
