I just used bare metal foil to mask canopy on a b-17 and finished all the painting and dull coat. I am having trouble removing the foil. It breaks into little pieces and I am afraid that prodding too much with a toothpick will scratch the surrounding paint job. HELP! very frustrating
Ah, another B-17 fan!! Hmmm… how long has the BMF been sitting on the canopy? it’s either that or you burnished it down a little too well… You might want to try to gently wedge a #11 Xacto blade under there to help peel it off. Be careful not to scratch the canopy, though. If I remember correctly, you can get rid of the adhesive residue with a cotton swab dipped in acetone. becareful here too because acetone will eat away at some paint.
Hope this helps. Oh, what scale B-17 are you building? E, F or G model? [:D]
its been on for 2 weeks. I tried a wedged toothpick and goo-gone tonight. very time consuming, but it is working. The results are worth it. Nice sharp lines. Thanks for reply.[:)]
No problem… I was a bit worried for you myself because i know what a pain masking canopies is… especially on the tail/waist/radioroom/cockpit windows… So… How about a few pictures of that fortress?!? [:D]
Should be done in about a week, I hope. I will post photos then. By the way its a 1/48 b17g OOB. I know Verlinden makes a detail set for this version, but I like the challenge of making my own details. Besides, most of the interior work will never be seen. It has been a lot of work, but still a really fun build.[:)]
