Any tips on masking metalizers? I usually like to use MM metalizers, but I have ruined a few finishes with masking tape when I pulled the tape off and took paint with it! Can you mask over MM, or do I need to use something else?
Use Post-It note pads. They come in many sizes and have a low tack adhesive on one edge. I’ve been using these for over a decade. Super great for isolating one panel to spray a different tint.[;)]
Hello Duathlete1,
I tried Post-It Note pads as well, but with me they have their own problems: they’re just not sticky enough and blow away when I start spraying. It’s also not possible to make them follow the shapes/ texture on models.
I use Tamiya Masking tape which I “grease up” a little by fingering the adhesive side of the tape: it gets less sticky and will be easier to remove. For bigger surfaces I use a combination of both: Post-It notes with masking tape just over the edges to get a good fit.
Good luck!

Wet newspaper works well, it stays put and doesn’t remove the finish.
lately i have used play doh or silly putty to do alot of maskin easy to form and doesnt pull paint off try that it might surprise u
Thanks - I actually used silly putty on a MiG I just finished. It worked great, but getting a good sharp line might not be too easy. I have heard that some metalizers stick better than others - any experience with this?
